When designing your hairstyle, the general rule of thumb when choosing what side to put your part on is to consider what side your crown is. Generally the part goes on the same side as the crown, because it's more difficult to get hair to sit flat that's being pushed in the direction of the crown as opposed to pushing that hair away from the crown in the direction it will sit flat more naturally.
