An old VHS transfer of HJF&R (with pianist Alan Dennison and a live string section) performing "Fallin' In Love" (with host Helen Reddy), "Winners & Losers" and "Every Day Without You" on season 4 of the popular late-night series. (Apr. 9, 1976) goo.gl/BKh5UV

Believe me when I tell you that 1976 was the most CHILL year, EVER. Music like this didn't come from a tube. Chill year. Bad News Bears, first season of SNL, The Jeffersons, Good Times on TV, Bicentennial Year, no fkn computers shoved in your hand, Boston's first album, Charlie's Angels, All the President's Men at the box office, Led Zep, the Who, Groucho Marx all still active, women were women, Pizza Hut was a great date night, the outdoors smelled like new mown grass and fireworks, beer flowed like Heaven's punch. I am so glad to be a high school graduate from that year; it is worth ALL the pain of being an old man today. Listen to me, young people today; make your world better, help memories of today to sustain you in the coming times of your later years.

Daisy Flowers: Dan Hamilton was unique! Miss him so much! The pianist was Alan Dennison, who replaced Tommy Reynolds after he left the group in 1972 to become a Minister in Texas. Alan Dennison was a formal/classic pianist by training.

Summer of 75 to the fall of 76 had amazing memories for me. I would sneak up and watch the Midnight Special. I was drawn to music at an early age and when mom was taken from me in February of 78 it allowed me to overcome the pain. The next few years were rough. We moved almost every year and my grandmother didn't believe in my music choices. I bought a radio at a yard sale with money I had earned cutting grass and collecting glass soda bottles. Reception was poor. Mostly AM stations. However, after I ran a wire off the TV antenna I experienced all kinds of music. The radio only lasted a few years, just enough for me to regain peace in my heart. Thanks for sharing this song and for the memories.

This is one gem of a discovery! In my opinion, "Winners And Losers" is one of the most under-rated pop tunes of the 1970s. "Fallin' In Love" does get more attention (since it hit #1), but "Winners and Losers" didn't crack the Top 20 (only #21). Can't help playing this video over and over again!

These songs where from the BEST album they ever recorded "Fallin' In Love" on Playboy Records in 1976. The cool thing about the album was when you opened it it smelled like fresh roses !!! These also used very expensive paper for the inner sleeve of the LP that had a rose on it. Every song on this album is a gem, and listening to the album is like reading a good book. I wish someone had a stereo copy of this performance that they could post here because this appearance contains the BEST version of the song "Every Day Without You" EVER !!!. Also listen to the string section playing behind them on this song....JUST BEAUTIFUL !!!! Dan Hamilton wrote most of the songs on this album, his finest.

I agree with everything said . .her singing on Fallin in Love would be like Dan Hamilton singing Delta Dawn as a duet! 🥵 Anyways always liked H' JF and Reynolds (Dennison). Spent many an hour listening to them driving to college on my Alpine cassette deck... and I could relate to each and every song they did...! Because I was a winner sometimes and a loser sometimes! Dan we lost you too soon! RIP

WERE IT NOT FOR CUSHING'S SYNDROME, PERHAPS HE WOULD STILL BE WITH US. HE WAS STILL SOOOOO HANDSOME, WITH HIS DEEP SULTRY VOICE. HOPE HIS GRANDSONS WILL CARRY THE SAME TALENT. Agreed! Helen Reddy should have taken some pointers from Ed Sullivan... Just introduce the band and let them do their thing wrong vocal characteristics for this one.

I didn't know Attila the Hun would come back one day, and appear as a singer to destroy a good song like this one.

I love Hellen's work but she was a fish out of water on this one and actually made me feel uncomfortable watching this wreck happen.

Thank you. I got called out for making a comment on up the list. I used to watch Helen Reddy a lot, but she never acted drunk, or stoned, or whatever. She should have stood to the side and let these guys do their songs.

Great vocals and tunes, and the piano fills fit nicely too! Unfortunately not a good key for Helen Reddy's vocals, but hey, but it was her show ;-)

I had a friend back in this time who’s younger brother was a virtual clone of Dan Hamilton right down to the gap between his front teeth. I mean the hair and all. The dude was very popular with the girls and a nice person

Did anyone notice that she tries to be hip at the point where instead of saying "well it seems like yesterday", Ms. Helen-ain't- Reddy decides to imitate a Black accent and says "yessaday". Ms. Helen-ain't- Reddy sounds way too proper trying to sing Black. lol But I love a lot of her own songs. But she should have stayed the hell away from this number! I could just slap Helen for taking the lead singer's second verse. I like the way he sang it.

I hear the “t” when Helen Reddy sings “yesterday”, but it’s easy to hear “yessaday”. It’s kind of like when Danny Hamilton sings “fallin” at the beginning of the song and it sounds like “fawin”. Anyway, I agree it’s unfortunate that Helen Reddy chose to insert herself into the song. Her voice doesn’t blend in.
