2022 - Seb is about to have his last race in Abu Dhabi. In the pre-race interview, Lewis says it was after this race that the relationship between them, ironically, became better and were much closer from then on since. Will miss you Seb!

Of course their friendship got better after that point. That was the day when Lewis realized, along with the rest of us, that he didn't have to race anymore with the explicit goal of beating Vettel and Ferrari. This is when it started to become clear that if Hamilton just went out and maximized every result on his own, the doomed combination of Vettel's ambitions and Maranello politics would do all of the losing on their own.

I care because a lot of people still lie about what actually happened in this incident. I don't care if people have problems with Hamilton but spreading lies about a person to justify a character assassination is dishonest. Hamilton did not brake-test Vettel. Vettel simply misjudged the distance between himself and Lewis and therefore ran into Lewis.

I really like Seb. He is my joint favourite driver but there is no way to defend his action here. It would have been wrong in any circumstance; no matter what LH does it is important to not let emotions control you and deliberate anger induced contact is unacceptable. I am quite a new F1 fan and it is interesting how politicised and partisan the fanbase is! I'm learning to always take debates and arguments with a grain of salt. It seems to be rare for people to attempt to give unbiased opinions - many of you are as bad as football fans! The politics and soap opera stuff is half of the fun so I'm not complaining it's just something that surprised me. We all have our favourites ofc but I expected people would go to watch the race as neutrals (like in horse racing, for example) not to support particular teams or drivers with such loyalty.

There is a racist stereotype that is still very prevalent in Western societies and that is that black people are more prone to causing violence than other races. No points for guessing where that stereotype came from. Obviously very few people in the F1 community will ever admit that because it will damage the reputation of Formula One. However that stereotype may be why people still blame Lewis for a lot of incidents he is not at fault for. People subconsciously deduce that since he is a colored person he must be more aggressive or violent than other drivers in the paddock. Now watch as other commenters accuse me of playing the race card... :)

To everyone commenting about Lewis brake-testing Vettel, please watch the onboard before jumping to conclusions. He didn't brake, he just didn't accelerate outta 1st gear, which is well within the spirit of the rules. I think Vettel anticipated him to, given the previous restart, but Lewis out-thought him again, and then again on the 3rd restart, as he pulled away quite a bit late in the final straight. The rules are clear, the leader dictates the pace, nothing grey there. Still think it was a bit naughty of Vettel to go on a kamikaze mission after that. Even as a Lewis fan, I can't be more happy though of the bigger picture. Fasten your seat-belts folks, coz the gloves are about to come off in this WDC!

Lewis is in control of the pace. You have to adhere to the pace after the lead car becomes the safety car in effect, Seb said that himself. He didn't brake in the middle of the corner nor after the corner. The data shows that. He just didn't Accelerate. Sebastian is mistaken, he thinks Lewis braked but it's more that he accelerated while Lewis didn't. The barging wheels after was stupid from Seb. That's just dangerous driving.

What people in this comment section don't understand is that its not about Hamilton braking, its about his rate of speed over time. His deceleration. Acceleration = velocity/time Deceleration is just the negative of acceleration so = - velocity/time Yes of course Hamilton braked but the telemetry shows that his deceleration was linear and steady. It was virtually a straight line. That's why he wasn't penalised. There was no erratic braking from Hamilton. I've seen it in the telemetry. Vettel just completely misjudged the situation and immediately tried to hide his mistake by driving into Hamilton as if he was to blame. Should have been an immediate disqualification followed by a race ban.
