I played on the same bill as Hamish in the 60's at Arbroath. He was a hell of a run ashore!! Luckily I met hime before I met Billy Connolly so I was fit to drink BIG TIME. Luckily for me I perform sober now - but I would LOVE to meet Hamish just one more time and tell him how much he influenced me and how much I STILL enjoy his songs.

I met Hamish a few times in Victoria bar , Glasgow , in mid 1970s, thru my friend Willie Gallacher. Saw him play live in pub next door to Victoria, before it became Clutha Vaults. I had the sampler shown by Billy Connoly in video, bought by my mum for me when I was about 14. My pal Roy used to go to New Year parties at Hamish's house, these sometimes attended too by John Martyn. I remember giving Hamish a few songs I had written, but he said they were not suitable ( in a nice way lol). Hamish sometimes played on music nights on the Waverly Steamer, as I remember my brother in law saying he saw him play. He WAS well known in Scotland, BTW :) 1 second ago•0

Saw Hamish many times in Glasgow Folk Centre. Saw Davey in Greyfriars Monastery in late sixties near Uddingston Zoo. Saw Bert 3 times with Pentangle and solo once in a disabled club at foot of a block of flats near Swiss Cottage one friday in early eighties. They were all drunk zooming between cafe tables in wheelchairs & I got hit twice. Ah the Joy's!

@panzermort Yes he did, in his sleep on the 1st January 1990 aged 55, just 6 weeks short of his birthday, 10th February. In my comments from early 2010 I was saying that I was grateful for the contribution he made to my development as a young man! A hoot of the FIRST order! Perhaps I will meet him again if there is an afterlife and if we both end up in thew same place

The other dude is Archie Fisher. I only met Hamish once when I did a floor spot at a folk club he was playing. I also had some guitar lessons from Davy Graham, but he was only interested in Classical guitar by then!

It's from ACOUSTIC ROUTES. Please write to the BBC and ask them to put this out on DVD. I have - The more voices- The more chance this will happen. It was an amazing documentary. Can get the cd of some of the music from it which say "The film was a Red Herring Production made in association with The Scottish Film Production Fund and BBC Scotland."

I saw Hamish at The Elbow Room in Kirkcaldy in nineteen canteen - he was very talented and very funny between songs.

Think Hamish has cult status among folk people.Hes not that well known in Scotland in general.Should be instantly recognised by his name in Scotland and beyond like the Corries.He is at the very top level in folk music especially scottish folk tho he did a few irish tunes as well.He was on the economic lges blacklist maybe thats why i cant remember hearing any of his great songs on the radio or seeing his briliant live performances on the telly.I only stumbled across him by accident.I was listening to christy moore singing black is the colour tho only after listening to the only tune by christy that i knew-Welcome to the cabaret and christy mentioned Hamish imlach.I typed the name in and was reborn in scottishness and folk music hallalugha baby.Crying shame that Hamish isnt a household name in Scotland.Now maybe billy connolly could persuade the bbc or stv to make a documentary of the life and times of Hamish Imlach tho 20 years to late better late than never.Lastly Hamishes wiki page is a joke.Somebody this great should have his life story on there.
