It's 1am, I will likely never be on a boat professionally or personally, I have no need to know this - but KZbin thought I'd be interested 😂

Can you please make one such video for EPIRB?
@CMHammar4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thank you for commenting and for your feedback. We will put it to our list of videomaterial to be produced. The principle of operation for our H20E is exactly the same as for the model designed for Rafts. The difference being a H20E cut a bolt instead of a rope. The two different "free-floating arrangements" are mentioned in different parts of the SOLAS-code. For rafts, Hammar fore fill the whole concept to have a Type Approval where as for H20E we supply the EPIRB-manufacturer, incorporating our H20E as a component into their Type Approved free-float arrangement for EPIRB. Hence we would not be able to go in to such detail as different manufacturers solves the task differently. All the best, Mikael

Thank you for watching the video. The H20 HRU has been in several tragic maritime accidents and there proven highly functional, releasing rafts from their cradles. We hope to be able to produce a vidoe like the you request soon.

at 0:23 -that whole assembly is all exposed? -seems it would not last until it's needed. Salt/sand build up doesn't jam the cutter? - It's going to cut a salt hardened rope? -sure. You're probably not responsible for this end, but where's the sea anchor? -that's the calmest storm I've ever seen -the raft would just blow away.

Hi salvor1, Thank you for commenting on our video on the Hammar H20 Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU). Please regard this as an illustrative video on a situation demonstrating how an H20 HRU work. The HRU follows the requirements set by the UN's International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the H20 HRU has been used by vessels globally for more than 30 years. To our knowledge, a non-activation due to sand/salt has not occurred, and we have no experience of the same during our testing of units returned to us after service life. Sad to say but the Hammar H20 HRU has been present at many ship disasters over the years doing its little task in protecting life at sea. The most important thing for the safety of personnel onboard is the competence and training of the seafarers. Our HRU is the last exit if all other attempts of a controlled evacuation of the vessel have failed. Stay Safe, Mikael CM Hammar

So, our dear castaways are in the cold waters of the North Atlantic for how long (and have drifted how far away) before getting to board this pop-up life-rafts? I'm not so sure about this... Also, this would definitely not have worked in the case of the sinking of the Costa Concordia.

Hi Mark, Thank you for commenting on our video. The Hydrostatic Release Unit is the last resort for releasing liferaft in case a vessel goes down. The HRU make it possible for the rafts to float free compared to having the ship bring them down lashed, to the bottom of the ocean. The HRU a mandatory arrangement for all rafts on a vessel sailing under SOLAS-regulations stipulated by the UN International Maritime Organization. If the worst would happen controlled embarkation to liferafts and lifeboats before the vessel goes under is always to prefer. The instructions on where to go and how to act should always be presented to you on these types of vessels. And in case of an emergency follow the instructions of the crew. A device like the H20 HRU can never replace the good training, seamanship and procedures of the ship's crew. Listen closely to what is said next time you go on a passenger-vessel, it can save your life. /Mikael
