Just shot my first ever 300 with this ball in League Monday Night. Was glad to see this review finally come out as was looking for it at time I purchased the ball. Disappointed to not see it done from the 3 perspectives though.

TamerBowling Thanks! Originally was looking to get something for the lighter shot we had been dealing with and quickly learned this was not the correct ball lol. Just WAY to much surface for a light-dry shot. Trying to decide between the Purple or the Black in prep for the next fall season. Will be throwing in my first sport shot this summer and feel the BW Urethane will work nicely for me there. Current bag sits at Jackal Ghost, Trident Quest and now the BW Urethane. Let me Add the BW Urethane has replaced my dads 30 year old yellow dot I was throwing on dry/ at 10s.

Jeremy DeLuca something like the ebonite affinity could fit as it will be clean but have motion downlane when you face dry conditions and can’t have a ball with as much surface as urethane. That’s where old reactive could fit or something downstream like an affinity.

TamerBowling Ill take a closer look at the Affinity. Only Ebonite Ive thrown was the Warrior when reps came I wanna say 5 years ago and never really gave them another shot after that. I have to settle into something though that shot killed me. Tanked my avg from 218 to 203 because I just couldnt hit it. Tried my dads Swerve fx and it held on the lighter shot for me but the dry shot was impossible. Hell even my AMF Mega Recovery ended up being too much for the shot. The only thing that seemed to work was my Hammer Jigsaw that I had polished back in 2012. shot 642 that night. unfortunately i went to clean it about an hour before league the next week and for whatever reason it decided to basically split in 2 while sitting on my living room floor. No clue how or why it happened.

Jeremy DeLuca there are a few options. From storm, you could go tropical. Not my favorite option personally because I find too much over under with that type of ball. Pitch black or blue. Blue was one I used a lot for that situation in the past but unless you have a lot of hand, which I don’t, it’s tough to keep pace with the high scores.

I might have to get this to replace my Pitch Black. Been having same issue past couple of weeks described at 2:00 with my league shot. Shot 147 in game 1 and then 219, 237 last two games with the same ball. Kept moving left until I found the spot. Then it was strike city.

Try a polished ure to start when it starts to not pick up go to the ball with a little more bite

I have 2 hammers one is blue and the other is like(widow) purple bought new in 1994. I just got back into a league after all these years off. Are either of these Urethane. I carried a 200 league avg back then.Also had a 299 in league Could you give me any advice about these balls and if I should upgrade to a newer ball? Any general comets would be helpful. I am 72 and still can roll it up to 19 miles an hour.

How does the Black Widow compare to the Purple Hammer? Mitch Beasley at Hammer said that the Purple has a much stronger coverstock than the Black Widow, but the big core in the Black Widow is what makes the Widow hook more. That's why they have the weaker core in the Purple, because the coverstock is so strong. Thoughts?

Yea, he told me when they were first developing the Widow they tried the Purple's coverstock on the Gasmask core and it was so super strong they couldn't get it up the lane! So they produced a weaker coverstock for the Widow, still much stronger than the Black Hammer though, and put the strong coverstock on the Purple. Will you ever review the Purple Hammer? Also, it doesn't seem you ever review any of the new Brunswick balls with DynamiCore, I am curious what you think about them.

nordattack I don’t have current plans to test the purple but it’s not out of the question. Brunswick doesn’t work with us so we are generally unable to test. I have no thoughts on products we can’t test.

Bummer. Ok, but please consider reviewing the Purple. It is the hot urethane ball in the PBA and Butturff is making a career from it. I would really love to hear your take on it.

I have a widow and it gets the most messenger hits compared to other ure balls but you can't throw it all the time unless you take the surface down

Hi Tamer ! i bowl twice a week, one day on wood & 1 day on plastic & i am a left handed bowler & throw around 15-16 & have a rev of around 275 ish give or take a few depending what the lanes are making me play, i would like to know what you think would be better on THS @ both lane types. i am looking to buy the hammer black widow gold or the storm marvel pearl which is on sale right now for $119.99 vs. $132.99 for the hammer. so not much diff on the prices. i also throw 14ibs & always worry about the rg more often then not being much higher then a 15lb ball. so would you go with the hammer black widow gold or the storm marvel pearl? to use on both types of lanes. thank you, i think you have one of the best bowling ball review channels on KZbin ! Michael Giovanni I personally test and throw 14 so not to worry there! For THS I have to say the gold is amazing. If you were bowling more on sport shots, I would say the marvel pearl would be more versatile on tougher conditions. With that said I keep both in my personal arsenal.

Tamer thank you for your advise, i think im going to have to pick up both to add to my arsenal, Ugh, lol, i guess i will have to play less poker online this month :) im a little sad now but i think next month after rolling them for a few weeks i'll be happy that i bought both instead of loading that money into my poker account. thanks again.

Michael Giovanni I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in either ball and they will be around longer than if they were spent on poker😜. I personally don’t use my marvel pearl except on sport shots because it is that good. But Bryan one of our testers who has similar specs to you always has it for sport and house shot.

Kevin Boeykens it will be stronger so if you need to build an arsenal of urethane it could be worth it. If you only use the pitch black occasionally then no.

I'm a two handed lefty bowler and bowl around 15-16 mph and I want a urethane ball but don't know which one to get. I have a good amount of revs but don't know how much. Any suggestions?

Pitch Black and Purple Hammer are both good staple balls. If you're looking for even more, then the Black Widow Urethane or Hot Cell are next up.

Pitch Black was my first Urethane Ball... It kind of sets the Benchmark for Urethane in my opinion... I think in the future, if Urethane continues its current hot streak, that we're going to look back at the Pitch Black like we do the Hyroad now... My Pitch Black is the first ball out of my bag to get a feel for the lane. Often times I end up sticking with it the whole night. It's very very forgiving and super consistent. I think Tamer hit the nail on the head in saying that Urethane simplifies the game in a way. I've gotten much more consistent with the dependable reaction I get with Urethane. I either strike or leave a pretty make able spare... Pitch Black may not be the ball you always use, but you won't regret buying it

I'm not sure why I'd need a urethane ball when I can just use a worn-out reactive ball.. Might pick one anyway but my fall-back ball is still the old (and worn-out) Elite Shark.

Sealance I used to feel that way but they are quite different. They may both cover fewer boards with more control but don’t do it nearly the same way. Reactive is still naturally longer and while over time it gets slower to respond to friction, in some cases because it has no traction up front, it doesn’t get the job done. Urethane chugs up front and then smooths out.
