Күн бұрын

In this restoration I will show you how I restored a ball peen hammer and also how I created the most beautiful handle pattern. The end result will amaze you , enjoy the video !
This hammer was found in Scotland, found with the metal detector. I bought it from the person who found it, for $ 5, with the intention of restoring it and increasing its value. After the restoration process the price of this hammer will be around $80 to $100. Now, this hammer will help me a lot in my restoration projects because I really needed the tool too.
This restoration took me almost 2 weeks to complete and I invested almost $35. Hope you will enjoy this restoration video and maybe one day you will be able to restore one, just like I did, just with the help of this restoration video. This would be an accomplishment for me.
OK! That's all for today guys, enjoy the video and please consider subscribing if you want to see more cool restoration videos. Cheers !

welp, u can think about it as applying the bluying to halt current exposure, afterwards the surface being sanded and polished and oiled has protective effect, alhtough funny at first glance, its somewhat logical to do that, he isnt restoring it in 2 minutes, it takes some days, and you wouldnt want to let it catch rust again or things, cuz sanded metal rusts again very easily, wouldnt you?

The most impressive part of this restoration is shaping the black locust wood handle BY HAND. This is an extremely dense and hard wood, nearly classifiable as an iron wood (sinks in water). Working this raw piece into a beautiful handle with minimal power tool assistance is testament to Mr. Cool's commitment to detail and work ethic.

Very nice work on the hammer head. I like locust for ball pein handles but I have always made mine from green wood on the shavehorse using a drawknife. I learned from a third gen handle carver who had extraordinary skills. I watched him make one of these for me one day - from start to finish it took him 6 minutes. When he handed it to me all I had to do was let it season then hand sand and oil. I made some myself but it was always a challenge to get a nice oval shape that was comfortable in the hand. This was especially important if I wanted to used the tool for forge work on my anvil. I finally got his seal of approval but it took a lot of shavings to get there. Now I use a pnuematic drum sander with 4 grits for the sanding and I oil with walnut oil. It dries to a hard water resistant finish very quickly and isn't sticky. Overall - nice job and what a beautiful shop!

Really nice piece, but when it comes to the handles of impact tools I think it’s best for the grain to be at a 45 degrees angle off center. It really prevents the tool’s handle from splitting with the gain during impact. Something this small might not immediately be prone to it, but a grain of 45 degrees could really give more life to the handle. I really like the hammer restoration though!

Very nice resto, the handle is particularly good, well done! Even though you put quite a bit of work into this piece, I'm not sure how it would be worth $80-$100. I have restored well over a dozen hammer heads of various types and have a drawer full to go. I either use them as intended as hammers, or more than likely just use the heads as forms when working metal. Change the shape of the surfaces and presto, anew form. I don't try to sell them because no one cares how much work one puts into restoring it, it's just a hammer. Hammers are cheap.

Thank you for your beautiful presentation of the steps and tools used to artfully restoring a hammer that most would have tossed. You turned it into a beautiful tool!

I have just started watch the channel and enjoyed what I have seen. I spend a lot of time on car and truck restoration, but I also like people bringing just about anything back to life. I see that you have good skill set in this type of restoration. I know most people in this set do not talk during there video's, but I think it might add to it hearing how or why you do something. Kind of like story it pulls you in as you learn something.

Thanks Richard because you like my work. About talking, this niche is about restoration but some people found this type of videos ASMR. And they want to hear only natural sounds. That’s why I try to describe what I make as much as I can .

That 2 gives you the weight, that I know because I have a hammer that just says 2 1/2. And mine is over 50 years old. I got it when I was an apprentice in 1970. I worked for a firm in Pity Me near Durham City. Great restoration mate. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Excellent work! That’s a beautiful hammer. I also enjoy restoring hammers, but you take it to the next level. That is some absolutely gorgeous wood that you made your handle from. I also like the contrast between the polished faces and the corroded areas from which the rust roughened it up. Again, beautiful work!!

That's a braw hammer you saved from a slow rusty death. At one point after the bluing process the combination of the lovely dark colour and the rust pitting made it look almost as if the hammer had been made from coal. Truly beautiful (braw) result. Keep up the amazing work

That ball and peen hammer restoration came out so nice I think for me it would be placed in a collector cabinet because I'd be afraid to use such a beautiful tool in my garage! Your videos are great and inspirational! It is so refreshing to see people like you taking old things most would toss in a landfill and giving them new life! If more people restored items instead of tossing them into the thrash, the world could be better!
