The Hammock Gear Wanderlust Complete Kit for Hammock Tent Camping raises the bar for an ultralight, low cost, easy to use, complete hammock kit. In fact, it has the some of the best thought out features and easy to use components/hardware we’ve seen on any hammock setup.

Another cool feature of the bug net, the zipper pulls glow in the dark! Which is really nice because if you have to get up it's easy to find your zippers.

Thanks for all the great info for newbies! I've been hanging for a few years but I've got several buddies that are interested in hammocking and I'm sending them to your video here!

Thank you. You made this look so easy. That loop sure seemed to be magically in the right place for the hammock to hang perfectly. Newbies need guidance on how to have that loop land in the right place when you are tying to the tree.

Glad it was helpful! Checkout this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/aau5nWuQpLCDrNE at about 4:00 where I hang WanderLust Hammock. In short about 14-15 feet between trees and start putting the tree straps at about eye/head level. Should get you in the ballpark. It's all in there. Best, -alan

Important thing I have to always remind myself to do when choosing a spot to hang, look at the trees up above, are they dead? Do any close trees have window makers that might come down on you during the night? I got this kit from HG, and am loving it, my next thing to buy is going to be their Dyneema tarp w/doors, at 7 oz it's even lighter than the sil-poly tarp.

Very good introduction. I have a hammock gear economy 20f and 10f quilts for ground camping. They are fantastic with thermarest neoair xlites. Very warm and comfy!

This is excellent! I just received my Wanderlust, after reading about it on your website and HammockForums. This video should be added to the HG KZbin for people (like me) who do better with a video tutorial. I was a tad confused about the tarp rigging (doesn't come with instructions) and your video answered all of my questions.

Thanks for the kind words Brian. Great that you are enjoying some of the Low Carbon stuff. [BTW we have another LC installment from Dragon's Tooth to connect all the way up to the Shen. Just haven't managed to find the time wo write it up yet. And yeah, stay tuned we are going to put out a lot of great video content coming up. Hopefully some will be short video clips of us hiking about. Wishing you a great year of hiking. Warmest, -alan

this kit seems like exactly the upgrade i want! im new to tarps - so I'm curious, if i get to a location that god forbid has no suitable trees & i happen to be using trekking poles, would it be easy to pitch the tarp on the ground w my poles? i think my dream system would be a hybrid - both components being able to be set up on the ground or in the air! what other fallbacks do peeps use when you can't hang yr hammock?
@rbrADV
@rbrADV 4 жыл бұрын
Excellent package with well-thought out features. Just a tip: get used to pitching the tarp first. Then you have a wind shelter, sun shade or rain tarp before you rig the hammock.

Indeed rbrADV, in windy or inclement weather a good idea. But for the most part in decent Wx the tarp stays in my pack :-) Happy hanging. -alan

I’m very impressed by this but leaves me a question. I would be interested in this for bikepacking. Would all the components of this system fit in a 10 liter dry bag? To include the top quilt and under quilt.
@adventure_alan_co
@adventure_alan_co 3 жыл бұрын
Probably not. The issue is the top and bottom quilts which are going to take up a lot of room. In warmer weather you could likely make it work by using 40F down quilts which would reduce the volume quite a bit vs. the +20 quilts that come stock with the kit. Best, -alan

Hey Alan, I'd love to know your thoughts on the new Wanderluxe kit and whether the upgrades to the DCF tarp and Premium quilts are worth it. To my eyes it seems like since I have the rest of my kit fairly well dialed in it would be worth the extra money to end with an honest hammock camping base weight ~12.5lbs. The only negative that stands out to me is the included shepherd hook stakes aren't my preference. Love the channel and it was great getting to briefly meet you prior to the West Virginia Skurka trip this year.
@adventure_alan_co

Hey Sam, if your goal is a light BPW for a complete hammock setup then this would be a great choice. The Ti shepherd hook stakes are in there to make weight lower (my best guess). But they add little if any to the total cost of the kit - so go ahead and replace them with four of your favorite stakes. Happy hanging! Best, -alan

Great introductory video on getting into hammock camping. However, one major factor you didn't mention is the importance of hammock droop. Most newbies will try to hang the hammock very flat, and after a couple of hours will find the lie to be quite uncomfortable. So, droop and the purpose of a ridge line should have been key info.
@adventure_alan_co
@adventure_alan_co 4 жыл бұрын
Good point. Altho at this point, reputable kit hammocks which is what this video focuses on, all come with a ridge-line at the correct length. At this point, you need to buy a really cheap hammock or go out of you way to get one without a ridge-line for the correct hang. In order to keep this already long video short, I omitted topics like this or it could easily have run over 30 minutes. Best, -a

@@adventure_alan_coI think @dinh71 is referring to the *purpose* (not existence) of the line - Im a noob so I don't even know what it is!

how is the sleeping versus on the ground? and does water travel down the attachment ropes into the quilts?

The carabiner in the suspension system forms a break. Rain travels down the tag end of the suspension line -- so not into the hammock. Best, -alan

You could always tie some paracord onto the straps so the water runs and drips down those. That's what I do!

Thanks for the video, I've been wanting to see this kit in action. I love HG stuff and looking to get this for my wife (or have spare for friends), so glad to see the setup! I will say, NOT centering the tarp over the hammock did bug me a bit, lol. Definitely want to do that to keep the rain out. Also, why get up in the middle of the night? To fight bears of course! Jk, always To Pee for me...always! 😄

Hy Ryan, that tarp not centered might be a camera angle, and I do try to favor my head when pitching a tarp. Wet feet is one thing, but rain splashing in your face is another thing altogether. And it was a super fast, for the camera, pitch. We do the best we can :-) Wishing you a great year of hiking. Warmest, -alan
@RyanSchell
@RyanSchell 4 жыл бұрын
@@adventure_alan_co I didn't think why the camera angle, just figured it was more the quick setup for the video. I have a hard enough time setting up my gear efficiently without a camera in front of me 😆. Good point about keeping the head end more covered. Thanks again for taking the time to film the setup. I'm already itching to get out again myself.

So a bit of an update, I bought this for my wife last month. What a phenomenal kit! So simple to setup, I mean can't get any easier. My buddy saw hers and immediately bought it, minus the insulation, as an upgrade to his setup. Videos like this one are super helpful!
