I turn the trap around and use my foot or feet to hold down the bar and put the safety on, and then to set it. I use rubber bands to put bait on the tray, usually tomato slices for ground squirrels...because that is what they like around here. Yes, occasionally I put bait on the ceiling, but usually that is not called for here. I have caught many squirrels and rats who steal (or ruin) all of my tomatoes and peppers. We had serious property damage from squirrels and had to put in underground fences, and many other barriers and methods against all types of rodents and rabbits. Now we can rest pretty easy, just setting a few of these WCS traps when a new squirrel appears. fingers crossed! July and Aug are the worst for ground squirrels!

Would like to have seen the use of end caps which provide a smaller entrance hole to prevent non target species I.e hedgehogs getting killed.

Good trap, but is anyone going to come up with a better alternative to the fenn trap that is just as versatile and doesnt cost 50 quid? Nothing ive seen comes close.

Yes, exactly, I was commenting on the fact that there is no alternative to the Fenn trap at a similar price. This trap costs about £50.

I use the Doc 150, in a box. Works very well, caught 8 so far, and some of them have been massive. A quick clean kill, every time

The trigger is very fiddly - I have one and it works but it's an aggravation to set. Part of the time it goes off when you set it in place. I would look for a better type.

Hi. I just bought one. I was able to set it. I had the peanut butter above the trigger plate and l watched as the squirrel entered the trap, grabbed the peanut and vsat on it and ate it. Hec then went back in 2 more times to get the peanut butter I used to hold the peanut and licked his paws while sitting on the tube. How do I adjust the sensitivity of the trigger and the plate? You failed to communicate. You want us to put the peanut butter on the _inside_ of the trap above the plate. You touched the exterior of the trap and said "roof."

what good would the bait be outside of the trap?
