It came down to this radio or the Anan 7000. I was very close to buying this radio. It is fully supported on Windows, OSX and Linux as well. The Linux support almost had me confirmed as I greatly prefer linux for my daily OS (I work in computing). I had ExpertSDR installed and it looks like a great package and from other demos it seems very capable. What tipped me over to the Anan was simply that the software is open source. If anything happens that software will live on. I'm also free to modify anything I want about the software, interface and firmware of the Anan. The community will keep that software going for years to come. What my concern was with the Expert SunSDR is the software is closed, much like the Flex, if anything happened to the company and my copy of software was lost or Windows advanced and it no longer ran, I would have a very expensive brick. If ExpertSDR was open source, I would have bought this radio.

waiting for a cheap and easy SDR for dummies - your video is good and very informing.

If you connect a PC to this radio, which you also have connected to the classic TCVR, and turn on the filters, automatic AGC based on how many decibels you want to hear the station above the noise, you will find that this is an absolutely phenomenal device whose capabilities even the more expensive TCVR does not come close to . Unfortunately, every traditional HAM has only experienced a classic TCVR where they turn the knobs, but the work with the signal is really at a professional level with this device, with SSB modulation you can achieve such a result without distortion that every TCVR with classic NR/DNR has that you can also shame on the most expensive manufacturers. Broadcasting is not about turning knobs and looking at how I have a beautiful TCVR that weighs 15 kg and actually can't do anything 100 percent. This device is for those who want to really and effectively broadcast and work on HAM bands, because all the controls are in one hand and in front of them on the monitor they have the whole band with such projection and self-definition possibilities that a classically designed TCVR will never reach this level . Only the audio output that completely caresses the ears while listening, unfortunately I did not notice in the video that any function was shown, at least the basic one how to work with signal and noise, I believe that after that most viewers would be amazed and understand what this is about the device is. This device is nothing with which the current concept of radio as we know it can be connected, and here there are many prejudices and an unnecessarily erroneous assessment that this device has nothing to do in the HAM hobby and is only for DX expeditions, which is a huge mistake.

I almost bought one of these instead of the Flex. I believe it is one of the really nice SDR radios out there.
@HamRadio24 жыл бұрын
Yes, agreed. I do admit I like my FlexRadio better though. But this one is quite nice.

I had a 6400 flex I replaced it with the SunSDR2DX and will say hands down the EE is better. No issues with sd cards no flashing red boot errors and when version 3 comes out will be even better. Also note the anderson power poles are MUCH better. Plus is already to go hardware wise for pure signal which will be out in 2021. Hands down a better rig and I've been doing SDR for over 16 years N8SDR

@@HamRadio2 I did pull the trigger on one of these and I am really loving using the radio. So many options for noise reduction and the TCI configurations (equivalent of DAX/CAT on the Flex) is fantastic. Although TCI support is not in a lot of applications. Otherwise, just like with a lot of SDR software, you need virtual audio and com0com which work great.

nice video, the sundsr units are great radios. and an amazing price point helps as well. 73s

Thing that holds me back from these expensive SDRs is their warranty coverage / reliability over the years, ability to resell later.

Would it kill them to put a SO-239 for at least one of the antenna connectors?

How does this SDR stack up against the flex. I’m thinking that my next low band radio will be an SDR.

advice for those thinking of using the miniUHF to SO-239 adapters, DONT! I have not yet found one that did not cause issues, just buy or make the miniUHF to SO-239 pigtails
@HamRadio24 жыл бұрын
Interesting - I have used adapters on my Motorola radios with no issue. It does depend on where you get them, though
@SP9DR4 жыл бұрын
I can confirm this. There you go that is my SUN SDR2dx and adaptor which I have got from Martin Lynch UK dealer kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKGxd6qKrZlpmq8 EE sent me the new connector and pigtail cable.

At half the price this would be a nice over priced radio. I understand it's not a high volume piece of hardware but really? Over $2000 for a $150 SDR radio with a $200 amp built in? No tuner, no power supply, no knobs, no screens and you have to supply a computer to use it? No thanks........
