Hamster Wheel : I saw these guys and couldn't resist filming them. Here is the shortened version of the shorthaired syrian hamsters adventure in dominating the wheel.

Poor hammies. Pet stores should really get rid of those mesh wheels. But THEY ARE ADORABLE!!!! I would totally buy them just to get them away from the stupid mesh wheel. And give each of them a cage that actually fits the aspca requirement and a safe wheel that won't potentially cut off their little feet.

regarding the hamster wheel - someone did a study like 10+ years ago that said mesh wheels aren't any worse than solid wheels for their feet as long the spacing is smaller than their feet. (For rats and mice, also consider the tail.) I own that model wheel, the spacing is 7mm. Syrian hamster feet are about 13mm. (It might be too large for a dwarf though). The reason for this is that solid wheels have more inertia and therefor the hamster is more likely to injure himself getting off. Some hamsters can spin them up so fast that they go flying. Keeping them all in one cage is another matter.

Just want to say for all of yous finding this funny, sure its funny when they fall but you don't understand how painful that would be for them especially with the mesh wheel which is extremely dangerous for hamsters as they can get their limbs stuck in it and/or get bumble foot. And syrians can't live together Also i know this is from a petstore this is why you never buy anything out of a petstore and never listen to the workers there, they are amateur pet owners meaning most of them dont have experience with many pets just to let you all know ;)

+Natalie Grayson you are horribly misinformed. Syrian hamsters along with Chinese hamsters are solitary, dwarfs are social hamsters. There is not 50% chance, the statistics from hamster experts show that 95% of the times Sryians, wether they are from the same litter or not, will fight. Dwarf hamsters (winter whites, campbells, and roborovskis) are the only species of hamsters that can live together and even then there is the 50% chance that even as litter mates they will become territorial and fight. Pet shops keep Syrians together because they do not hit puberty and become territorial until they are about 10 weeks old which is when they would naturally be with their mother in the wild. After that they will love a solitary life only socializing when it is time to mate. Dwarfs are the only species that live in colonies. Please do more research about the matter, the last thing anybody would want is to put these little guys in danger.

Mesh wheels are commonly a source of bumblefoot. It can cause severe pain to hamsters and other small rodents who get their feet/tails stuck in it. Back in the day when these were literally all you could really find, my mother's hamster broke both of her back legs bc of this kind of wheel. She recovered swimmingly tho

I know mesh wheels are terrible, but everyone in the comments section here is ignoring the fact there are over one hamster: hamsters are not social species so they will try to kill each other any chance they get. To make matters worse, (as if a mesh wheel isn't bad enough) that wheel is slightly too small and they don't have a wheel each so they won't get to run whenever they want.

"Swissy Missy" or whatever you want to call it, it is simply a version of the classic "Clarinet Polka" used in many comedy movies, most notable " The Great Race" with Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood. I love the hamsters, my daughter has ONE,, we have to keep telling her that like rabbits,, well you know, there is no such thing as TWO hamsters, soon there are 2,000!!I could see the hamsters put to the Lawrence Welk version of Clarinet Polka ( as used in afore mentioned movie),, THAT would be even more hilarious than the pie-fight scene!

I have that exact green wheel!! But I put tape inside of it so it would be flat and not have the gaps that can trap their limbs. But my hamhams Smoky and Bandit do that a lot xD They seem to enjoy themselves.

I was going to say you should get a different wheel, but then I saw you corrected it! I would recommend eventually getting a proper solid wheel though, it's much easier and smoother for the hamster to run on!

I would suggest you put duck tape on the inside of the wheel to make it safe for your hamsters to run on. They need a flat, solid running surface or else they might get bumble foot from thir feet getting stuck in the mesh. Just some helpful advice so you won't have to spend more money on another wheel.😊👍💕Your Welcome💕
