I mained enhance during vanilla and tbc era, there are couple of things worth mentioning. In TBC, ever since it launched all the way to Black Temple patch, there was a bugg that enabled you to ignore the internal cooldown of windfury, therefore boosting your dps by considerable amount. You see, even though you could dual-wield, you still had that 3 second hidden CD, during which you were locked out of the proc chance, (this existed in vanilla aswell, but only from patch 1,4 or 1,5) BUT, if you would down-rank your windfury spell on the off-hand weapon, while keeping your main hand with highest rank ( like this main hand windfury rank 5, off-hand rank 4) this would override the 3sec cooldown, causing in a dps gain beein alot more then Blizzard had intended, this was actually well known to highly ranked shamans, but virtually unheard of to most 'casuals' and other classes. Obviously, you can't see this on private servers, as they only emulate the 2.4.3 version, as this was to about 2.3.x
@hermeticascetic5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was gonna say my DPS in TBC was way higher with enhance than elem. I was consistently top of the meters without much effort. And then wrath came along and I don't remember much other than being pissed off every patch

Hamsterwheel is off so many times. I raided in Kharazan on retail with a lvl 70 troll enhancement shaman and fuck me but bloodlust from the get go buffed the whole raid, it was never limited to your group. See when you're trying to be a past time historian at least get your fucking facts straight. Enhancement shamans were also pretty huge at the beginning of tbc as there was a bugg that allowed you to endlessly procc windfury on itself without any eternal cd if you put wf rank max on your main and a lower wf rank on your off hand. That made quadruple proccs happening and enhancement shamans were actually topping dps charts, being infront of even fury warriors and such. I just generally dislike that even though there is a lot right stuff being said by hamsterwheel it still creates a wrong image. It's cool that you've played on private servers with older patches and raided there but fuck off if you haven't played these times for reals in retail. The private servers I played on where dogshit compared to the real ones. Even the best on private servers where skillless idiots in comparison to the retail servers. When the arena came out there deffo was skill to be found on the retail servers. Imo only guys who wouldn't be taken by high end pvp or pve guilds would end up playing on privates, they wanted it all, success the best gear, name it. BUT they were not willing to put the effort behind it.

Enhancement is indeed an underdog spec and never had extended time in the sun like fire mages or aff locks, but I definitely remember them being extremely scary in Sunwell. I think the highest DPS I saw in TBC was an Enh Shaman pulling ~3400DPS consistently in there, which was astonishing at the time. It's always been an interesting, beautiful, sadly niche spec.

One crucial thing you missed: Vanilla respecing. A small tallent in the enhancement tree was 2hand wielding. And no I do not mean being able to wield 2 weaponds. I mean: being able to equip 2 handed axed and maces. Which means: You forget the 2handed Axe and Mace skills as you respec. Meaning: as you spec to a enhancement shaman: relearn the weapon and skill it up all the way. *EACH TIME YOU RESPEC* Which put a MASSIVE cockblock on any shaman even daring to try the enhancement spec.
@MisterSaturnDX6 жыл бұрын
@@Navak_ Yes, you absolutely did have to re-level your two-handed weapon skills every single time you respec in Vanilla. I played Shaman through all of Vanilla and lost countless hours of my life to this, and I REALLY hope they don't leave this in for WoW Classic. :(
@Verrulz6 жыл бұрын
The problem with dualwielding was that winfury had an internal cooldown, so if your offhand procced your windfury, your mainhand couldnt procc it for a short amount of time. The fact that most offhand weapons were attacking faster than mainhand weapons made it even worse since you obviously want your mainhand to procc windfury. Anyway, BC was a great expansion for enhancement shamans. it was a ton of fun to play it.

See what I don't get is that Enhancement Shaman was extremely useful to a raid. I was the Nightfall Totem bot for my guild and we made it all the way up to the four horsemen before burning crusade came out. Sure I never came close to top DPS but that wasn't my job, my job was to make sure that Nightfall debuff was on and that I rotated my totem buffs so the actual DPS could do their job better. Not to mention all the other stuff I could do. I think when classic comes out, we will see Horde guilds taking 1-2 Enhancement Shaman depending on how many melee groups there are and at least 2 Resto Shamans in the caster groups because Mana Tide Totem and Chain Heal are fantastic.
@psychologybear68465 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, shaman nightfall uptime is about half that of ret pallys, and even further behind warriors and melee hunters
@riklaunim6 жыл бұрын
As a shaman on pserver I was pretty much needed a lot for totems in melee group. Only once when we had 2 shamans in group for Ossi one shaman was placed in healers group for mana tide totem. Some PUGs or even more serious guild runs place like gear requirements with the exception of Shamans that only requirement is to put a totem and go AFK if they want to :) After getting some ZG and AQ20 gear I had to say bye bye to enhancement for mob farming and stuff out of group content. To avoid constant respecs I made elemental-resto hybrid without mana tide (as I was constantly in melee groups). Surprisingly elemental works quite well on those twilight cultists which most of them are casters or caster shamans and on long range their lightning shield won't trigger (or they don't cast it then?).
@novat97316 жыл бұрын
Classic wow - Why specc the nightfall shaman into enhancement talents? It's better to simply specc restoration, and heal on a swing timer. TBC - Every single hybrid class received some form of group or raid buff, inaccessible to the base class without speccing deep into the talents. Paladin got 3% crit to all DPS in the raid on their judge target and refreshed all judgements with crusader strike. Enhancement shaman increased the attack power of everyone in their group by 10%, every time they crit, while the improved wind fury totem talent returned and was made significantly more powerful. It's funny that you mention warlocks doing more damage. Going a bit more in depth on the subject of TBC warlock damage, you will find that the most optimal way of dealing damage past t4 content is simply spamming shadow bolt over and over. While Enhancement shamans would need to cast storm strike, shock spells put down 4 totems and alternate between agility totem and wind fury totem to maximize personal and group DPS. Meanwhile, Warlocks spamming 1 button over and over beat them. If you're not sure what i'm talking about with alternating totem. The wind fury totem applies a 10 second buff to the weapon of everyone in range, it's possible and optimal to drop wind fury and have it tick once so that the parties weapons are buffed for 10 seconds. Then drop the agility totem for roughly 6-10 seconds, juggling global cool downs on 2 damaging abilities and 2 totems.

I rly have to say that i miss it... when i was raiding with my combat rogue i was so happy when i could have an enhancement in my grp... just all over to keep an eye on " what is the group constelation ...for example that you would do more dmg as a melee when u got a warry tank cause of the armor shred
@broncojones31466 жыл бұрын
I think you should have mentioned one important factor at the beginning of TBC. Before the 3 sec internal cool down for windfury was introduced Enhancement Shamans did insane DPS. With no cool down windfury was able to proc on an exta windfury attack. Sometimes i couldn't see shit because my screen was littered with numbers. Unfortunately the dmg spikes you produced generated an incredible amount of aggro so that for the beginning of Kara it was basically impossible to raid as Enhancement Shaman, since Tanks couldn't handle the aggro. Obviously that was the reason for the 3 sec internal cool down(well they where oneshotting mages/priest in BGs left and right as well).

Looking at Worldoflogs top parses from retail averaged from relevant bosses (i35.tinypic.com/2lkqubn.png), enhancement did 75% of the #1 DPS. Given that they also perform worse than MM hunters and Frost DKs that would offer the same buffs, you definitely don't want to have enhancement in a min/max raid, and they're at threshold of being a major liability, especially considering they're also one of the least survivable specs and one of the toughest specs to play to their maximum potential (not a factor for this kind of stats but definitely a factor for most of the raiding population). Interestingly, enhancement did 75% of the personal DPS of legendary-carriers in Sunwell as well. The difference being, of course, that their corresponding raid DPS contribution was ~130% instead 75% (WotLK has no unique buffs besides a pittance of strength from Enhancing Totems so personal DPS is all you've got). Which is a pity since 3.3.5 enhancement is my favorite spec to play in WoW. It's a good mix of offering a more active playstyle while also having the sort of limitations and inconveniences you'd have to work around, characterizing pre-WotLK classes.

Definitely wrong about Wotlk with Enhance Shamans being Mid tier, especially towards the end of the expansion. Man I don't know why it bugs me but can you spell enhancement for me? And explain where Encha fits in?
@J-Mello6 жыл бұрын
Satbeer K Lol relax. Enha is heavily reliant on both elemental and profession enchanting to reach respectable dps, so ur comment is irrelevant tbh.
@MrTamaman896 жыл бұрын
the encha is just a joke. It alludes to how people call enhancement "enchancement". Similar how people call moonkins boomkin/oomkin.

Woah that skill Tree in wrotlk is completely wrong and the best weapons were imho the gauntlets from molten core cause the procc of them could trigger swift cast and would boost your dps by some degree with instant chain lightning or lightning bold also in PvP in combination with blood frost dk and fury warrior in arena you had enough proccs to one hit most leather wealders and could easily spam chain healing to keep your group up.

1. The spec isn't completely wrong, it's mostly right 2. Gauntlets weren't the best for the whole raid, only for you 3. This video was not about pvp, it was about raiding. So you got all wrong, not him.

So yeah. Like a few people have said, you didn't do your research on WotLK Enhancement raiding. :P 1 point out of improved stormstrike and 2 points out of improved windfury totem into improved fire nova and the level 20 elemental 1 point mana reduction talent when you crit with a spell (elemental focus I believe it's called) is the best spec. Frost DKs provided the 20% (not 16% like the shitty WF totem) attack speed buff. Wasting two points on it is bad. Improved STR of Earth totem should be picked up by Elemental Shamans. Enh in Wrath required A LOT of finesse and experience to reach the tier 1 DPS potential it was capable of alongside Rogues, Mages, Feral and Balance Druids, Fury and Arms Warriors, etc. That is why Elemental which was a three button spec would more consistently do higher DPS. Because noobs on private servers who roll Enhancement don't really know what they are doing and spamming Chain Lightning, Lava Burst and Lightning Bolt is just SO much easier. There are also very few good guides on Enhancement DPS in Wrath available on the internet as well which doesn't do much to help that issue. You could also have mentioned with the addition of 10 man raids to Wrath as a baseline difficulty, Maelstrom weapon was immensely useful as an off-healing tool. =)

Enhance was only good at the beginning of wrath. It took a lot of work to be in the top end. But people mistook skill for imbalance. So basically every patch there was a shaman Nerf.
