As a Malaysian, you are right, we do mix our English a lot🤣 Manglish+Malay+English Chinese+English Hindi+English Mix everything we got Rojak Language Rojak= Eclectic Mix

@@miroh8 Yeah😊 These 3 are the main races in Malaysia btw🇲🇾❤️ But recently, there are Japanese and Korean people started to live here permanently for the past 2/3 years because they said it's 'Stress Free' (especially from Japanese people) It depends actually😂 There are many Indonesian lives here also💕

I mean thats what us who have english as a second language usually do. In my country (Czech republic, but I think it applies to all schools in Europe) we have to learn british english in schools but you usually hear american english more, so it really depends on the media you are watching/listening to and the country of their origins. We end up mixing it a lot and I feel like every person (at least in europe Id say) devolps their personal accent. Han also hears a lot of australian english and sometimes adds that to the mix haha

You're right, Han grew up in Malaysia and had a British teacher + he's a huge Harry Potter fan, I think he also ends up copying a bit of Bangchan and Felix's accent since they come from Australia (I hear Felix's accent is a bit British too).

felixs accent isn't necessarily British but then an Australian accent does come from the British so, also ur likes are at 143 lol

Felixs accent is def Aussie (from aussie) but most Aussie and British accents are quite smart in pronunciation for certain words, so that's why some of what Han says sounds Aussie and briths

As a Malaysian , all of our English teachers have a British accent even tho they are not even British. So they just teach us with a British accent but most of us end up speaking in British+American+Malay accent lol. I think that is one of the factors why Han has a British accent

Since Malaysia was under British occupation, most people there speak English with a British accent. So when Han lived there he picked up the inflections naturally as well as went to a British International School (International schools are foreign institutions where all classes are taught in English, they are mainly used so expats' kids can live with their parents overseas and still go to school) My guess is that's why his accent becomes so much more British when reading (ex. when he read the Christmas story, the questions, and the ad for clean oceans) because he probably did most of his reading English in a British environment. I think it softens when speaking normally because in Korea, the main English influence is American English, along with Chan and Felix's Australian accents leaving a bit of a trace in his as well.

Nope our official language is Malay but English is second language for most of Malaysian. English subject is a must in every school. We've learnt english since kindergarden. And coz Malaysia also have different races. Not included foreigner who came to Malaysia as expertised or unskilled labour.

Han is completely Korean but he went to school in Malaysia for a few years and learned English there, I’m not sure what type of people ran the school. I think he’s picking up a little bit of an accent from the Aussie members tho!

idk if anyone answered your question but the entirety of stray kids is pretty much fluent in english since chan & felix are from australia and speak a lot of english. jisung (han) & seungmin already knew english and improved with felix & chan’s help. the others learned along the way but picked it up rather quickly. lee know understands everything since felix talks to him in english a lot but he doesn’t really speak in english interviews because he’s not that confident in his english skills.

@@jamieislazy most people just say jisung or hannie, especially on twitter you won’t see someone say han 99% of the time 😭 even felix said in their variety show that the fandom calls him jisung so I think most people use his last name 🫣

Seungmin and Hyunjin learned to speak English in the US (not that they were there for long), so had more of an American accent. But have since picked up the Aussie accent from Felix and Bang Chan. Han's accent switches constantly

I think the reason why it sounds like he has a British accent, because he pronounces all his syllables, which is quite common with people who learn English rather than grow up fluent with it.

he lived in malaysia idk for how long and they learn british english rather than american english i guess he picked up the accent. the other they don’t all speak english they’re learning it but bangchan and felix are australian. seungmin speaks english very well, hyunjin speaks quite a bit but still learning. the others speak a little bit of english and are learning. lee know knows very little he can slightly communicate but he’s not confident in his ability with it

Han Jisung spent a lot of his formative years in Malaysia which until the late 50s - early 60s was part of the UK. It would seem probable that the English spoken there could have a British accent.

10:15 the "school scenes" - (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZzGdZaslruUrbM) It was two-three episodes I think, and they were playing games and stuff it's a funny show with their ex-member, that's why the video creator blured his face. That particular game: There were two teams (IN, Hyunjin, Changbin, ex-member Woojin) and (Chan, Felix, Seungmin, Minho), and they had to speak in English. Most of them didn't really speak well, or just didn't have the confidence, but it was understanable (not the two aussie - BangChan, Felix). They had to convince Han, with different situations or reasons, to choose their side (e.g. hot - cold). Aaand Han studied British English, but he watches a lot of series and everything, and he says his accent is mixed. Since 2017, he has been living with two aussies, studied British, but also constantly hears American too.

Okay to clarify [cause i just learned this] Han is not British, was not born or raised around British accents HOWEVER, he studied at a International school in Malaysia. A twitter user by the name izzy explained the whole story to which I will quote a bit of what they posted "Han's first language is Korean, and he learned English by studying at an international school in Malaysia. Malaysia was colonized by Britain and so the variety of English spoken there is (officially) derived mainly from British English, and not American English. HOWEVER Malaysian English has over time incorporated some American English from tv shows etc. so that's why his accent sounds like a mix of British and American." He was born in Korean though.

It really depends, I'm sure Han has many versions of his English, because just like most if not all Europeans he larned british English writing and his case ven talking in school, I'm not sure how Asia is with movie synchronizations/dubbing and stuff. So if they've aired movies (at least from a certain age on) in the Original English be it American or British he soaked that up. Then he came back to Korea and possibly had to get re-used to speaking Korean (with everyone besides his parents) and for some odd adorable destiniy he's one of 8 who ends up in a Kpop group with 2 Australian raised colleagues....so I think he, as by now all the SKZ are probably quite able to speak Konglish in all the collected accents. ^^

As far as I know- many people who learn English in school, where the population doesn't speak it as an official language- mostly learn British to begin with. (like, not perfectly, but that is the focus from the teacher's point of view.) In recent years, American English have spread though... I studied an English course at university a few years ago- and one teacher "teached us" in British English, the other in American English. Maybe all the Tv-series in American English that are shown all over the world make young people speak more like Americans.... :) Also, people who do not speak English as their first or even second language, tend to mix accents because we hear so many different on TV and in school. It's difficult to pick just one when you listen to American, British and Australian and Irish... and so on... online. As well as all accents coming from people who speak English as their second or third language...
