I finished making this skirt today :) it's very beautiful and I can already tell I will wear it a lot! As it's becoming winter in the UK, I used a wool mix for the skirt and brushed cotton for the waistband. I also made the width of the skirt panels a few inches wider (I'm an L so i used the full 60in width of my fabric rather than 56in as instructed) which allowed me to fully pleat the skirt. I wore it this evening and several friends were so surprised and impressed that I made it rather than buy it. I will definitely make another in lighter fabrics for a spring/summer option!

This is a really silly question, but I am tying my head in knots - when I am measuring on the fold the width of my fabric, do I halve the measurement given at the top of the pattern? So that ultimately the skirt length ends up being 56” unfolded? I just don’t see any other way, otherwise I am never going to get fabric wide enough….sorry, this is the first pattern I am trying…

I made my hanbok wrap skirt today! It was my first real sewing project, and it's given me a lot of confidence! I'm not totally happy with my pleating, but it's given me such insight into making the next one! I followed the L size measurements, but I think I might use the XL waistband measurement, with the L size of the skirt, and do wider pleats. I bought the black linen from your shop for the skirt (it's so nice!), and paired it with a dark blue floral cotton that I had around. I followed this video the whole day! Thank you so much! ☺

I just finished making my hanbok shirt about 10mins ago and I'm already trying to decide what colour to make my next one. As a beginner to making my own clothes, this was an easy pattern to make especially with the video to follow along with. I love that it is adjustable for weight fluctuations and I was really happy with the just below knee length. I made mine in a tencel/linen blend and it drapes and moves so nicely.

I made this and it was lovely and the instructions were quite clear. I had made a few changes, making the skirt longer and adding pockets. The pockets were an interesting challenge since I wanted it to stay reversible so I made it like an apron front skirt. I made two slits and binded them and I wear it with tie on pockets. Overall this project was great and very achievable by a beginner and in a few hours (took me around 3-4 hours)

So pretty, I want to make one each for my cousins. Their grandma was korean and they still have a beautiful pink embroidered silk fabric I could use. Your patters is really easy to understand, I love it! I especially like your forethought to use a fabric that can be used from both sides. I like wrap skirts cause you can still wear them, even if your body changes and the versatility of the pattern is good in terms of longevity of the piece. I love things like this. 😊

As someone who loves pockets, the decision wasn’t easy, but I didn't like how they added bulk to the sides when combined with the pleats. I decided to prioritize beauty over convenience this time.☺️✨
@lynn85810 ай бұрын
@@SewingTherapy I'm wondering if pocket slits, and tie on pockets might allow for the heavy pleating without the bulk. Or, the overlap could provide access to a tie on pocket. Not the most convenient or elegant to reach into if the wrap is deep - but certainly an adequate pocket for something like ID cards - when you probably won't need to pull it out, but obviously you have to have them. Planning the pocket length carefully to ensure the contents of your pocket will sit below the hip where the skirt sits away from the body will keep the "stuff" from adding bulk. I've learned that regardless of beauty, I just don't wear outfits that don't meet my pocket needs... So I've been trying to figure out ways of incorporating them into garments that aren't well suited.
@lynn85810 ай бұрын
I love that it's reversible! Even if it's not visually different, if there's a stain that can't be removed, or pilling or something, you've got the other side. Flat fell seams at great. But I'd forgotten what they were called. Thank you!
@wherocaro10 ай бұрын
I added pocket slits to mine and they work great. They do add some bulk to the sides so that is something to keep in mind but a single layer pocket (my tie on pockets are lined and made of a midweight fabric) might be flatter. Still looks good even with the added bulk, it just creates a more curvy appearance, maybe a half inch on each side when you have stuff in it, not sure on exact thickness. Another opinion would be an internal pocket in the waistband for small objects like an ID similar to some yoga pants. That would also maintain the reversable nature.

Her fabric is 56" wide. Cut two lengths 27" long. If your fabric is 45", cut the two lengths, baste them together and baste the pleats, then see if you like the look or if you want to add a 3rd panel of 45" wide fabric , 27" long. Also see FIRST, if you want your skirt longer or shorter than the 27" allows for.

Hello, I am trying this skirt for the first time. I am not sure what imeasurement is the waist or length. I cut three pieces of fabric 27 by 56. Which is the length, which is the waist measurement . Thank you
@SewingTherapy6 күн бұрын
27 refers to the length. Typically, measurements are written as width x length.😉

I want to add pockets in this skirt, since part of the skirt overlaps, where should I add it? Do I need to cut the large piece in half.
@SewingTherapy7 ай бұрын
You'll need to decide where to add pockets since it's a wrap skirt, and everyone might wrap it differently. Therefore, the location for the pocket could vary.

Hello Sarah. I bought the pattern to make this skirt. I'm trying to figure out how much fabric I need to buy, so do I use the smallest part of my waist or my waist around my belly button, which is actually bigger (my dietician has me measuring here)? The smallest part of my waist is 43.5 inches (108.6 cm) and my circumference at my belly button is 53.5 inches (133.8 cm). My hips are 54.8 inches (136.9 cm). Either way, I'm going to use the 3XL as I think that will be the best fit, and I hope the pleats will allow for my plus size figure. Do I need to cut a slightly bigger waistband because I'm slightly bigger than the 3XL measurements or is there enough wrap and waistband to just make the pattern as is?
@SewingTherapy10 ай бұрын
You don’t need to! There will be enough wrapping area for you! ☺️ To make fuller pleats, add more inches to your skirt panels and you can adjust pleats as you prefer! Good luck on your first Hanbok Skirt adventure! 🤞👍

If we have a fairly large fabric, do we need to cut it twice on fold? Can't we just take the right measurement in one piece?
@SewingTherapy10 ай бұрын
Certainly, you can proceed with that. The pattern is designed for the standard fabric width of 60 inches.
@abiztic3748 Жыл бұрын
Is the flat felled seam on one end of the skirt and the double hem on the opposite end for a lined/two sided skirt that's about 53 inches long before pleating? Or is the flat felled seam combining the two skirt pieces into one piece that is 106 inches long which will then be pleated?
@SewingTherapy Жыл бұрын
The width of your fabric should be doubled before making pleats.

I have a question regarding cutting the fabric. I am making size xl and need 3 panels for the skirt part that measure 51x27 inches. My panel of fabric is 55x118 inches. It says to cut them on fold. Does that mean 3 panels on fold for the 51’’ or 27’’?
@SewingTherapy11 ай бұрын
When cutting with measurements, you don’t need to fold the fabric to cut. ☺️

Thank you! That makes sense! Looking forward to making it: I will send you a picture once it’s done!

I don´t understand "partial pleats" for size 2XL. I am trying to sew this skirt now and a i have a lot of skirt fabric.. so not sure what partial pleats means here and it is not mentioned in the video. Does it mean placing pleats only in front and back, and not in the sides? Or does it mean pleats that overlap each other?
@SewingTherapy5 ай бұрын
For some sizes, I suggested making partial pleats as full pleats can create a bulky waistline. I mentioned in the video that you can leave some parts flat according to your preference. If you want full pleats, you can simply add more fabric.

in the video, your green skirt is black on the other side, but the orange one appears to be a single layer. does the given yardage in the pattern accommodate the double layer or the single layer skirt??

searched this online "What does 45 and 60 mean on a sewing pattern? When you see the numbers 45 and 60 on the cover page, these numbers indicate the width of the fabric. Depending on the fabric mill and content, some fabrics come in 45 inch widths while others are 60 inches wide."
