I love the history behind the hand-drill. Nicely done.

Impressive! You definitely make this look a lot easier than it actually is. Like you said, practice is critical.

Yeah it really is the key as well as having the right wood. It took my awhile till I got my first coal and even now I struggle from time to time.

wow....great video Rhys....I almost think I could actually do this....you made this look easy. If you are in East Tennessee......what wood would you recommend I use for my devices.....not a lot of yucca. I know you mentioned cedar....but would any dry wood do?
@rhysfontaine4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Most dry tree roots work good for a fireboard. My favorite root being tulip poplar root. As far as wood goes cedar is good and pawpaw is even better but I would go with tulip poplar root over those if given the option. As far as the best spindle I would go with a mullen flower stock. It's a super common plant around here and grows all over roadsides. I would harvest it live and let it dry for a while in your house because it can be hard to find a year old stock that isn't too brittle. Yucca is the best though and even though it's not super common around here I do find it in people's yards quite often and on the side of the highway too but it is for sure harder to come by. I have a bunch of yucca I harvested a week ago and would be willing to give some if you would like.

Y'all should do a video together! Rhys can teach you in person to make fire!

lynda fontaine actually. I talked to him about a collaboration....perhaps he show me all the edible plants and I paint them in the field.

Why are all of your videos pixelated? I can't see any of them

Huh I’m not sure, it looks clear on my end. Sorry It’s so pixelated on your end
@miadel5846 Жыл бұрын
@@rhysfontaine I don't know either but all the videos on your channel are completely pixelated I can hear you perfectly but cannot see you! I don't know if it's a KZbin thing or what but everything else plays just fine on my device! You have great topics anyway
