Cheat it a bit. Use some honey, warm up your set a bit before you get going. Use the lighter to warm the tip or burn it in a bit. This wasn't designed for cold or wet climates. Chain your success. Start easy mode, then work up to full method. Good luck, rooting for ya!

I feel like such a moron, watched this 7 months ago & grew a mullien in the yard. Made a killer spindle & couldn't figure out why I was drilling though the board in 30 seconds to a minute. I was like "man I'm a total savage my awesome strength is just drilling right through this puppy. After re watching this I had made the serious mistake of using the base of the mullien as the hearth board so it just went right through it pronto. You are the king going to give it another shot next time I go out, cheers for all the videos I don't comment much because I don't like come off as youtube spam but your legit man, thanks again.

I went outside recently because I figured I was spending too much time indoors, so I went out and made somewhere around maybe 3-4ft of rope using only grass and my hands by twisting it together. I felt good about it. and just last year I made my first Axe out of wood, stone, and jute twine.

I played for a long time with the idea of going outside again like in my childhood days. We used to build dams or Little huts with Wood we found or make bows and such. While i was in the Military, I'm from Switzerland btw, i started watching Videos of the Channel Primitive Technology and started to get inspired again. Then I stumbled over your Channel which really gave me the final Motivation that I needed to go outside again. In the last few years I often only stayed inside watched movies, played Video games, went to parties with freinds, etc.. But recently i started to enjoy going for walks at night again or maybe just going outside at night to enjoy the sight of our beautiful universe. But there was always a feeling inside of me that told me subconsiously that I wasn't happy about how I'm living my live right now. What really gave me the kick and the urge to go outside into the Woods or moutains again was, when, while I was in the Military, I went away from our camp in to the nearby forest and went for a little walk up the mountain. I then sat down on a stump and rolled me a One (Joint). I smoked it and just stared at the nightsky and reflected back on my live*. This was when i realised that i wanted to go outside again into woods like in the "good old days" as we say. Thank you Chris for giving me the final kick and for you tutorials that teach me "Survival" skills. You may not realise it but you're motivating tons of people to go outside again and enjoy nature. I hope that i will get the sense of achivment again when I do little things like starting a fire without a lighter, etc.. Thank you very much Chris :). *PS: That doesn't me you need to drugs to improve or change your live, it has to come from deep down, you have to be convinced yourself that you want to do something. It's your life live it the way YOU want not how others want you to live it. I made experiences in this regard but that's a Story for another day.

I have undergone multiple spinal surgeries, from laminectomies, discectomies, and a lumbar spinal fusion. I also have epilepsy and diabetes (mainly genetic as opposed to overeating wrong foods/lack of exercise) Your videos help to motivate me, I had spent the last few years recovering and I am still in a very high amount of pain. Yet, I make a way to go fishing again, even grilling said fish by the pond, except for the two I smoked. It's mainly bass down here, but not only bass. Reconnecting with nature is akin to reconnecting with my ancestors. Thank you for supporting a return to the skills we once possessed. Adapt, evolve, overcome.
@TheWoodedBeardsman6 жыл бұрын
That's a tough list to overcome man. But everything you do despite that is on you and that says something. You taking control of something that was put on you. So yes, keep doing what you can and ignore what you can't, it's all any of us have.
@NicholasBrentByrd6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the encouragement, if this is my "cross to bare", then bare it I shall, and keep right on going until the end. In humans, weakness isn't being deeply injured, it is quitting because of it, we can still overcome and thrive. I watch the Paralympics and the Special Olympics, whatever disadvantages we have do not preclude us from greatness. Deceased US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, FDR, is a prime example, helped win a war while his body failed him, same for Stephen Hawking. We can let our difficulties define us, or we can call our scars survivor marks, and keep on going. I chose to keep going.

I can do bow drill but im excited to learn the hand drill. I have best luck with just yellow pine here for bow drill
@johnlord83376 жыл бұрын
Another easy option is making the John-Rudiger Roll system. Using a 2x2 pine board, cut 2 lengths of 8 inches. Dado out (chisel out) the center length 1 1/4 inch wide x 1 inch deep for each board. This makes a square "U" shape. Drill small holes along the side of the board (like a cribbage board hole), and put small rudiger balls inside. Make small wood/mullein (etc) dowels for the hole plugs. If you want, you can superglue emory sanding strips onto the back sides (for sharpening up your knives and tools, but also friction for holding the boards). They fit together and you have excellent grip and control of the rudiger method for starting a very quick ember from tinder sources. Just pull out a rudiger ball, place into the trough of the upside U board, place the other overturned board into the slot, and rub and roll until you get an ember.
