These trills are wonderful, just pure joy to listen to them, not even sounding like an exercise to me.

My jaw dropped at all these demonstrations.... my god. i seem to find my way around every problem for myself and students but the very very very crisp thrilling i seem to still have work to do. Would you recommend mastering every thrill you've demonstrated on the white keys first in both hands?

I don’t know if it makes sense to practice ALL types of trills. Neuhaus wrote that “Godowsky never practised scales. […] He played the scales he encountered in musical compositions…” But once you practice a particular trill for a particular piece, you can practice it in all sorts of positions and variations. Test different fingerings. Also with both hands in order to compare them. The most important thing is to follow the rules: lower the wrist slightly and perfectly synchronize the minimum rotation of the hand with the strike of the fingertip. At the moment of the slightest desynchronization, the trill breaks.

I don't know whether i have to adjust my chair from very high to low and practice until I can be anywhere.
@aw4piano

1. You have to test many possibilities until you find a good position. 2. Even if you’ve already found your optimal position, playing very high and very low is a good exercise.

@@aw4piano Dear Maestro, why is playing sitting very low and very high helpful? In which situations/ which kinds of music shall we use it?
@aw4piano
@aw4piano 4 жыл бұрын
@@JuliaPikalova Horowitz used this method to have the most natural touch, without getting tense. Generally, if you succeed playing in such difficult positions, it will be much easier to play in a normal one. You can test this way your bench height as well.

Is there anyone who would do the same kind of explanations for the organ?? I need a detailed explanation of how to achieve articulated legato to play early music. I just can't find the right motion (or a helpful enough video). ;(

One of my students just sent me this title: “What Every Pianist Needs to Know About the Body” by Thomas Mark With Supplementary Material for Organists by Roberta Gary Thom Miles. Maybe this one (I haven't read yet)?

I know requests in classical music is a bit too much to ask, but if you at some point have the time AND interest I'd love to hear your perspective on Chopin's op.10/10 (A-flat). It's always been one of the toughest Chopin etudes for me, for some reason it's hard to find a good approach to balance the thumb/sixths and legato/portato in the right hand.
