Thanks for the great video.........I've always found it easier to add the small parts after everything is done. Keeps them from getting broken off.

Here's a tip for keeping your water based paints (acrylics) from drying out as you hand paint. Saturate a small sponge with water and put a piece of paper over it that will act as your palette, then put your paint on the paper to mix and thin it, etc. The paper will get wet from the sponge and keep the paint from drying out as you go. This is ideal for figure painting if you're doing a lot of painting of identical figures all at once; best to set up an assembly line and paint the green clothes (for example) on all 30 of the figures, then switch to brown and do all their boots, and so forth.

I did think about trying this out.. I've seen a lot of the mini painters doing this.

I really enjoyed this. The splotchiness, the streaking, the mottling that resulted as you painted looks like "pre-weathering" as you went along (especially the underside), instead of weathering it when the main painting is done like 99% of most modelers do. I think the scale 1/72 is best for hand painting too, as a larger model would just be such a chore to hand paint.

Thanks! Yes the kit turned out better than I expected. I should try doing the same process with another kit at some point.. can't believe how well the black went on. Check out my T72 video, I hand painted that and it went surprisingly well as-well! Thanks for commenting and liking my vid. best

A tidbit of history: the red squares (16:05) over the gun ports on Spitfires were actually red tape. The squadrons placed red tape over all the gun ports before a battle to, if I recall correctly, indicate that the guns were loaded/reloaded, cocked and ready to go and to keep debris, dust, moisture (thereby preventing ice from forming) from collecting inside the guns and causing a stoppage. The ground crews could also tell which guns had fired after a mission because the tape would be pierced on guns that had fired. Intact tape would indicate which guns had failed to fire and needed repair. I also read that the guns were heated to keep them from freezing so the tape kept cold air out and the heat in. Not sure if this was true on the Spitfire Mk1 though.

Thanks, I am starting to use an airbrush myself.. its early days but I'm starting to get the feel for it. Like many I've been out of the hobby for many years so I thought it'd be a good idea to practice basic brush skills. I'm currently painting a Harrier for this weeks video by hand.. back to the airbrush after that :) Thanks for saying hi and cheers for commenting.. much appreciated.

You will find that better artist acrylic paints like Winsor & Newton are more opaque, especially the white and yellow. There is also an acrylic retarder to slow down the drying and make blending easier.
@modkitmayhem16 күн бұрын
I should try them sometime.. it was really a test to see if I could even paint with this type of tube paint.. I’ve wanted to do another video with standard hobby paints! Just not had much time recently.

Great job. The realism is remarkable. I liked how you used the various colors to modulate the colors of the various panels and chipping. Would paint retarder have slowed down the drying of these acrylics? Loved the pace, patience and attention to detail you exhibit. Kudos and thanks.

Thanks William, Glad you liked the end result.. it turned out better than I expected. Paint retarder with these would definitely be worth a try.. might take some of the stress away on the lighter colours. I’ve just tried a new technique with Vallejo paints on a 1/48 Hellcat that’s also looking fairly promising. I’ll release a video on that soon. Thanks for the nice comment it’s very much appreciated 😀👍 cheers

What do A,B and C colour schemes look like ,is A dark green/grey,and B brown and green ,and C trop colour scheme??
@modkitmayhem Жыл бұрын
If I remember rightly A and B are Brown/Green. B scheme is inverted so all the the green areas are painted brown and all the brown areas green! The camo pattern is pretty much the same. Not sure if C is grey! I’m sure a Spitfire expert on here will know! There’s a good section on this in Robert Humphrey’s The Supermarine Spitfire (Part 1) Book.

What a beautiful job, a piece of art !! Colours seems nevertheless a bit strange ( accuracy and saturation) even if it is difficult to judge on a tablet screen.
@modkitmayhem3 жыл бұрын
Thanks.. it did work out in the end 😀. Without a doubt the colours are over saturated and most definitely less muted than the real colours.. and yet it still looks very Spitfire. I’m looking forward to doing a ‘proper’ colour 1/32 Spitfire when I get back to doing the videos again, having said that I was tempted to do an me109 or fw190 with these paints ha ha! Cheers

@modkitmayhem3 жыл бұрын
One drop of thinner to roughly three paint I think! Drop the thinner separate and mix the two together in-till you are happy with the feel/texture of the paint. It very much depends on certain paints and even colours as they all act differently. Hope that helps 😀👍
