Thank you so much for making this!! I especially appreciate the focus on both of your hands working together. I have been sewing with a machine for years and just recently starting my hand sewing journey and no one mentioned that my hands should work together lol. I'm hoping to hand piece a log cabin quilt for my mom and this has been super helpful. Thank you!

Thanks!! This is exactly what I needed to find! I don't have a sewing machine and I'm making a hand pieced quilted pillow like thing with this technique. Hope Texas allergies aren't too bad right now! 😊

thank you for sharing your method! I handle the intersections the same way that you do. The first time I hand pieced, it seemed intuitive to me to reinforce the intersection that way. I think of it as "wrapping" the point at which the fabrics all come together. It makes for such perfect points!

I just found your channel and I am excited that I did. I have machine pieced and while I love it for that instant gratification I have always wanted to have a hand quilting project going as well. Thanks so much for your time to teach us how to hand quilt. It really is a lost art. I look forward to more videos.

My daughter's first quilt (8 x 10ish) top wouldn't lay flat and was abandoned to the back of a drawer. Twenty years later I "find" it. Using an IKEA poster frame and strips of mat boards, I labelled it "Study In Color".... She loves it... Yeah!

I'm researching how to hand quilt before I get started and was wondering, Do you blanket stitch the seams of the pieces for the quilt? Thank you so much for any feedback.
@thequiltasylum
@thequiltasylum 6 жыл бұрын
No, I don't blanket stitch the seams. It's not necessary. With hand-stitched seams, I press the seams to one side. With machine-stitched seams, I press the seams open.

Thank you so much for this video. I am hand sewing a rag quilt and was wondering how to make the intersections of seams more secure when I sew the stripes together. Going to do this method.
@Nancyswerner
@Nancyswerner 5 ай бұрын
I’m still confused after watching the intersections part.. Are you basically going back and forth through the same spot a few times? Is that what she calls making a loop? I love thé vidéo but i got kind of stuck on that part. and it’s what I need to improve.

I've started to hand piece and I love it. Prefer it to machine piecing. Relaxing. I'm marking my seam lines but my blocks end up too small. I've heard a scant 1/4 inch seam will go a long way to solving my problem . Do u sew along the line or short of it .

Hi! Love your saying,"I am not a knotter", do you handle quilt layers the same way? or just on piecing....?
@thequiltasylum

I do use knots when hand quilting. I "pop" the knot under the surface and bury it in the batting.
