Thank you so much for this wonderfully specific tutorial. I have always loved hand piecing but started machine piecing, thinking I could complete so many more quilts in my lifetime. Your video has reminded me of why I fell in love with quilting - that relaxing feeling of just me, thread, needle, and fabric sewing wherever I am. In addition, you have introduced me to the tailor’s knot and acrylic templates. So thankful to go back to my beginner’s excitement of quilting. Your beautiful piecing and excellent teaching are such a gift. Can never say “thank you” enough. When you have time, I’d love to see more (please)❣️

Beautiful. Took me multiple views to understand "top thread" and "bottom thread". Top thread - the thread that is coming up from the fabric that has just been stitched and bottom thread is the thread as it is coming from the needle. Got it. Thanks. I've been sewing FOREVER and now have a new knot.

Thank-you, I have learned a lot from this video. I used the corner holes/dots to pin accurately, then sew point to point on the machine, when I was making my first quilt top, it was a sampler. I also made a 41/2"sq template plastic tool, with holes every 1/4", in the centre and on corners, straight lines and 45 degrees. So I could put accurate points on other square patches, and triangles which don't come with holes in templates for them, or were cut with cutter and ruler. I had done epp before and liked the accuracy. I like that you are doing "Dear Jane" like this, i'll have to get mine out again. Thanks again, and all the best.

Thank you for such a thorough introduction to hand piecing. It is really helpful, especially explaining the equipments (sandpaper...of course...that will stop the pesky little bits moving) and the techniques (love the tailor's knot...I will use that from now on in my handsewing). I'm starting the Nearly Insane Quilt, which may be a tad adverturous...but I feel better equipped now having found your videos. Thank you Wendy.

You should look into the pincushion that's a ring. The way you hold the fabric, it would be very handy on your left index finger. I believe the "cushion" fits on a bottle cap and is just big enough to hold a couple of appliqué pins and to park your needle. ❤🌅🌵😷

@wendysquiltsandmore
@wendysquiltsandmore 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. In some countries EPP is very popular. I learnt EPP from my mother many years ago. I didn't know anyone who hand pieced. But in some European countries they are bought up doing hand piecing and can't see why we bother with papers and EPP. I think hand piecing is becoming much more popular outside of Europe now.

God bless you for your wonderful work hand piecing.l enjoy watching you sew and hope I can see more of your videos. How do you determine the size of your square block and your triangle for your block?
@wendysquiltsandmore
@wendysquiltsandmore 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jina. Thank you for your message. I didn't design this block - it's from a pattern. But the edge of the diamond needs to equal the edge of the square, and then you add the seam allowance. It's best to find a pattern.

Brilliant video, Wendy, thank you. If you wanted to make another sometime, (!!) I would love to see one on marking the template plastic and cutting it out as accurately as you seem to have done. I have used template plastic, from a quilt shop, to make stencils but I find it very hard to cut. And do you purchase the stamps from one supplier? Could you please post a link to where you get them? They look like a fabulous idea. Many thanks Marina

No need to do anything to keep it from fraying. When the quilt is layered with batting and backing the raw edges will all be safely enclosed.

hi. do you take one whole up and down stitch first, and then put your needle through the same holes again but leave it in the fabric while you put the threads around the tip poking out?

@@wendysquiltsandmore thank you for responding. I worked out that I was putting the wrong “tail thread” around the needle. I think this is why the knot wasn’t forming. It seems to be holding now. Thank you so much for these instructions.

Books don't cut it for me, as i have never had anyone whose shoulder I could look over for sewing skills...Thank you very much....I'll watch all the videos on hand-piecing that you think you could possibly make that highlight any of the basics or difficulties one might encounter when hand-piecing!!! @wendysquiltsandmore
@wendysquiltsandmore 4 жыл бұрын
@@melissa2384 It's the same for English Paper Piecing. Some people like 3/8" seam allowance, others like 1/4" seam allowance. Personally I prefer 1/4" to reduce the bulk on the back of the quilt, but some people prefer 3/8".
