I can't wait to see this finished. I love the quilting pattern choice.

Those curved needles I know of as upholstery needles which is why they are so thick. What a stunning quilt. It’s really beautiful.

Thank you so much! Someday maybe I will try my hand at upholstery, so I'll keep those needles around!

I have now hand quilted 5 EPP quilts and am about to start on my 6th. Mostly, I have done an overall repeat pattern across the width of the quilt, because for me it's all about colour, not so much the quilting, and my favourite go-to is a clamshell pattern. On this latest version, I have laid the hexies out in diamonds, with a dark single layer border all around each one. The plan for this quilt is firstly to do a simple running stitch in the diagonal borders, in a contrasting colour to the border. Depending on how that stabilises, I shall then work more into each diamond. I use a fine large eye embroidery needle with 12wt perle cotton for the borders and will work into the diamonds with 40wt coated quilting cotton. I find quilting over hexies isn't too bad if you choose a pattern that doesn't intersect with every.single.seam, and I'm not a great fan of over-quilting hexie quilts, which are already quite heavy. Too much stitching just makes them really stiff. That's OK if they're for display, but I make quilts to be used, and a nice drape is better.

As I've been quilting this EPP project I've noticed that it's going to be on the stiffer side. Something I didn't anticipate: rookie error! Another viewer mentioned the stiffness tendency, too. Since it's going to be a wall hanging, I'm going to try not to worry about it. But now that I know about this, I will definitely do less quilting in the future on any EPP bed quilts. Your latest quilt sounds lovely!

Your quilt looks beautiful. Tip: I learned that when your quilting lines are closer together the quilt will be stiffer. And more supple when the lines are farther apart.

So lovely to see quilting stitches the proper (tiny) size. I’ve thought the giant stitches people are doing are just not good enough!!

@@StitchingaPath braver than me…I haven’t been game enough to delve into paper piecing or he is, but when I do I think I will take inspiration from your beauty as the colours go so well making a stunning design , not all washed out or flowery ..if you know what I mean. Design and colour are not my forte! Looking forward to watching more of your journey! 😃

Great vido and advice. I am STILL 😢😢 working on a large grandmother's flower garden. Unfortunately I didn't trim seams enough, used cotton batting and thicker backing. I absolutely love the quilt . However I have to up and down not rock the needle to quilt! I am hopeful to finish with in the year. Rookie hand quilting mistake.

Oh boy, I understand about the up and down needle part when I cross some of those seam allowances! Most of the times the precautions I took are working, though. When you are done it will be so worth it!

I’ve got a little hexie quilt on the go, 1” patches. The design is single round multi coloured flowers with paths of pale grey, and I’ve found a lovely grey backing that has irregular coloured 1/4” multicoloured dots, but it’s too small a piece. So I’m going to do a hexie pieced border around the backing to coordinate. And I was also wondering about how to quilt it because of the seam allowances. It will get washed a lot and I don’t want them bunching up inside the quilt. So rather than quilt too closely, I stitched all the folds at the corners while folding them over the papers, and those sts remain after the papers come out. Hopefully that will keep the bulk neatly in place and I can quilt a bit wider apart.

Yes, those basting stitches at the corners should help keep things together. I don't think I've ever seen a hexi pieced border...cool idea!!

OK I will try Google translate to answer your question! Это хорошая идея для видео! Надеюсь, скоро я смогу написать об этом короткую статью. А пока дизайн японский, и я нашел его в книге о японских семейных гербах или символах. Спасибо за просмотр со всего мира!
