Excellent Video. I added a few intermediate steps: Drop the connector 10 times minimum, melt the plastic on it, throw it away, take out a replacement connector , drop that 20 times minimum, melt the plastic on that, imagine all steps explained in this video in your mind, then find a different hobby. That's my slight variation on it.

WOW! I don't even need my hot air station! I broke the ufl connector on my Foxeer 2.4Ghz receiver when I crashed my fpv quadcopter. Thanks a lot for the tips!

FPV is hard that’s why I’m here too 😂

I fixed it last month. It was only 2 days ago that I got to put the foxeer receiver to my quad. It replaced the tbs crossfire. I flew it today, but just line of sight, it worked. Not a good test yet since it wasn't too far.

Simple, clearly explained. I'll be doing the same in a few days when my connectors arrive. Thanks!

Thank you for posting this! This is most instructive and helpful! I am preparing to modify my Ouya micro-console for an external WiFi antenna by adding one of these connectors. The PCB already has pads for one and was originally going to try my hand at my company's air station, but now I think I may hand solder mine after all! Best Regards

Legit little tutorial/example of soldering this connector. I first laughed at how shakey your tweezers are, then I saw how small these connectors are lol. Good video.

Thanks, I have a LoRa board that this connector ripped off from while trying to remove the antenna. No traces lifted and the center conductor remained on the board so only the ground pads need resoldered. Looks like it's not terribly difficult to fix, just small. 🙂

Is the signal portion the only bit that matters (the other two pads are just for structural support)? I was considering trying to solder a u.fl onto some all-in-one camera/vtx combos for my micro drones, they're just running cruddy dipole antennas that are direct soldered to the board, but if I could put a u.fl on, then I could also install a nice antenna.

Now can you tell me if this is the smaller u.fl connector? I bought one of those chinese internal antennas to help increase WiFi signal range on my tablet, but turns out the u.fl connectors are too big. I thought it was just one size. Been googling around and can't seem to find the proper name for the smaller u.fl connector inside the tablet (Asus MeMo Pad).

+Franck Perruchoud I use Kester 28AWG (.015") 63/37 solder with no-clean flux (part number 24-6337-8806). I typically work at between 650F and 700F, depending on the part and pad size. 650F in this case.

data sheets are great for that info. they will usually give u something like "max temp 350c for 10 seconds". With the max in mind you then account for your solder, and how many/how thick traces are. if im jsut doing one or 2 through holes ill leave station around 220, if I have to do a 40pin connector with ground pins on a multi layer pcb...im usually gonna add 10-20 degrees. There is no one right temp other than avoiding the max. There is however a range that usually works better than others productivity and outcome wise. its something u need to feel out.

Hi, thanks for the video. I know it's been a long time since you shared it. I am willing to replace a straight edge sma connector with one of these ipex. Do you think it is possible? Any advice? Thank you

Do you know where to purchase the connector that fits into these sockets please Twisted? I see ufl sockets everywhere but not the crimp connectors to go in them. Cheers muchly.

Nice video, but I was just wondering if you can solder or crimp the opposite ufl connector on to the cable that fits on the connector you soldered? Thanks

ONE Q: I cannot see nor find the center tap on PCB, only the ground, the center area is discolored, it is from a drone and although my 57 year old eyes cannot see it (FPV camera) the drone's camera (!) could take a snap and NOW I can see the distinct pads in the photo. I have blepharitis in left eye and cannot focus, luckily I did buy a Princess iron by Ungar, they do not make those anymore! What do you think of soldering DIRECT to the pads and skipping U.FL hardware entirely? I am good with soldering but focusing is gonna take 5-6 eye baths with Baby Shampoo before I can SEE that damn thing!

I ripped out the socket from my laptop while trying to remove it. It looks like a u.fl but it has 4 solder joints. What is it? And how can I solder it.

So... U.FL is the standard connector size name... for the MAIN/AUX connectors on wifi/bluetooth cards... I wonder can you shed some light, I have a tri card DW1601 or q QCA9005, and it has bluetooth, wifi, and wigig... There is an additional connector which is EVEN SMALLER than the MAIN/AUX connectors which I believe are the connector you have just soldered named U.FL..... So do you, or anyone else happen to know the name of the WIGI SMALLER connector I am talking about? - I need to find a cable that is long enough to run up to my laptop FHD back cover panel.

How would I go about doing this when the pad is circular as marked with a yellow arrow in this link www.soldierx.com/bbs/201304/Logitech-G930-Wireless-Range-Mod?
@flickerblip90448 жыл бұрын
+Alexandre Moreau That is a completely different type of connector. Since the center pad is inaccessible, you would need to use solder paste and either a hot-air gin or a reflow oven.
@RedNut6668 жыл бұрын
+Brian Donegan yea I managed to solder it but it fell of a few months later. sux cus it was a great mod and I don't have thoes tools. also it broke of the centre connector so its broke.

hi can i desolder this connector and replace it with mmcx instead? just curious if it will work or not. thx
@youth0310 жыл бұрын
I mean replace with Hirose ms156 connector
@flickerblip90448 жыл бұрын
+youth03 Not easily. You could flood-solder it, where you add enough solder to link all three pads, then melt them all together and remove, followed by cleanup. Otherwise, a hot-air tool would be the way to go.
@FabioKastro8 жыл бұрын
What is the best way to unsolder one of these?
@flickerblip90448 жыл бұрын
I answered that previously... I think the best way would be to flood solder the connector. I will try to make a video of that, though I have never had to remove one before...
