Hand Spinning Different Breeds: Herdwick Wool Profile

In this next installment of the wool breed mini series we are going to take a look at Herdwick, a lovely but rather specialized wool for hand spinners. Its easy to work with but definitely not he easiest to use the end product as Herdwick wool is remarkably full of kemp. But its fun and very satisfying to spin, especially long draw, certainly worth looking at if you are a slightly more experienced spinner.

I bought some Herdwick from Paradise Fibers (USA) last year as I wanted to try some different heritage breeds. Wasn’t quite sure what to do with it, so I really appreciate the tips in your video. Happy Spinning!

Hello! It took a long time to grow on me, but now i actually really like herdwick, its an odd one as its so course but its very beautiful and makes the loveliest garden twine or string. I hope you enjoy working with it too.
