I have both bags. The envelope is good when you're dressed up, it's an excellent "night" bag as it's very slim and structured and allows you to focus more on your outfit. The college is very understated and intentionally looks more worn and less fancy, and it's better as an every day bag when you're wearing casual clothing. But even so, it really dresses up your outfit.

Thank you so much for doing this awesome detailed comparison of the college and envelope bags. They are both beautiful, and look to be very functional. I like the sleek lines and thin double chain straps on the envelope bag. The versatility of being able to carry it as a clutch is an added bonus as it can definitely go from day to night...informal to formal... I love the college bag. It has been on my wish-list for over a year now, and I look forward to adding it to my collection very soon, preferably in gray/silver hardware. I could totally see myself owning both some day. Just saw the maroon and gold hardware college in saks and swooned. But since I want the same color combo in a Chanel classic i wasn't too tempted. It's a gorgeous bag and will be in my collection for my next birthday. It's a huge bag though so I may go down a size but at the same time I do love that you can fit the kitchen sink in it! @@thestylesynonym5757 Im still deciding between the plain chevron quilt vs the mixed matelasse (chevron + quilt version)-- definitely large size, black colour. Also need to decide between gold/ silver hardware. Such a tough choice! Looking for an everyday (work) bag, which is why I'm kinda leaning towards the silver hardware-- YSL gold is a very shiny one.. though I think ill have to go into the store and see which fits/ feels better. We don't have a YSL where I live so waiting to travel to London next month to purchase it. Do you prefer the plain chevron or combination print? Combination seems a bit much, right? @@nee5hap First of all, if your suitcase to London feels a little heavier and you see a couple of dreadlocks hanging out, don't worry about me. I'll be fine. :) So smart to get it in Europe because it's less expensive there than it is here (if you're in the States). I wasn't a fan of the chevron/quilted combo when it first came out but the more I saw it, the more I liked it. But the classic full chevron is my preference. I agree. The gold is shiny and does lean a little to the more formal side. But the silver on the envelope is shiny, too, which also feels a bit more formal to me as well. and I've worn mine to work, I've worn in casually and I've worn it out. I think whatever makes you heart sing, you get, because you will love carrying it everywhere, work or otherwise. P.S. I hope you get to go to both Harrod's and Selfridge's whilst in London. Very different experiences, both amazing!

I live in harrods when I'm in London, so no worries on that front and the immediate tax refund is amazing. Get the cash back, go shop some more! Totally agree, I live in Asia and EU is the best place to buy luxe. So I think my final decision is black, plain chevron, large size, gold hardware. I think that would transition best and my job in PR and events allows me to wear what I want without too much restriction (hence the bright gold would work too). Fingers crossed my trip happens in August and if it does, will definitely send you a picture! :) :) xx

That's such a good question! I have looked at the jumbo double flap a few times now. My hesitation is that I can't seem to get as much as I thought I would in it and it's heavier to me than the envelope clutch. I think if I ended up with a chanel classic, it might be a single flap since I hear they are lighter and roomier. I've never seen one in person, though. I also really love the chunkier YSL logo, but I am definitely a hardware girl. But a Chanel jumbo would be classic; you wouldn't go wrong choosing her! I have been thinking about a WOC. Its seems like it could come in really handy. You love yours?

ohh thats a good point in terms of weight. and yes! thats one of the reasons i love ysl-the goldware is so beautiful! i LOVE my WOC. the leather is pretty hardy, i haven't had it long but it fits my iphone and wallet which is my biggest criteria lol, and the chain it perfect for my 5'1 AND so versatile!

I have the WOC in black with silver Hardware I just always gravitate towards black I absolutely love it and the versatility I have with it I can wear it out to a wedding or as I said I'll wear it in the day with ripped jeans and a band tee and it looks great both ways! It was hard for me to downsize but I only carry what I need which is actually good!

No, I don't find the chains to be uncomfortable because of the leather strap. I have bags where the straps are just the metal chain and I have that same issue you do. But not with these. Thanks for watching!
