I used to have the small capiz chandelier as a hanging lamp from West Elm in the dining area of my apartment. It was beautiful.

I have one that is a 3 ball lamp that I got when we was stationed on GUAM 50 yrs ago and it still works

Margaret Spurlock I had that same lamp and it broke to pieces. It was my moms from decades ago. My sons dog broke it and I lost all the shells (some were salvageable) when my fiancé took them home in a box to try and save them. I was going to make a small light out of the remaining shells. He passed away and I never saw the shells again. I'm so sad because I absolutely adored the lamp and I cannot afford a new one. Everyone used to say how beautiful the lamp was. 😢😢😢

Basically the only original Filipino craft that they fully mastered It screams Filipino - the design is humble and down to earth - the art gave importance to nature's beauty in a different light - the craftsmanship is simple yet elegant - the type of craftsmanship is very flexible, Applied Arts can be in many shapes and forms, from accessories to everyday tools Shame the Filipinos did not capitalized on this and spread the word

Shame the Spanish colonized the Philippines that made the people lose its culture and traditions. But people are trying. Slowly but surely you know?

We did spread the word and taught our neighboring Asian countries of this craft even it means a future threat to our market and industry. We invited Indonesians and Thai Craft people as a government bilateral trade partnership and fellowship. But the traditional craft is just amazing with the use of gifted material from nature hence its worth sharing. its really a shame we never had to flaunt this generosity we did to our Asian Brothers/ sisters.

I also thought like that but Capiz shell are unfortunately very brittle. they can't be use in architectures now. most especially when the typhoons that we experience are extremely devastating. But I heard the new convention center in Capiz will have the touch of Capiz shells on it. We'll see how that works

How so? Would you rather discard the shells?! The mollusks are edible, which means fisherman can harvest them for their meat and reduce waste by reusing their shells for décor and handicrafts. These are centuries old tradition and are very sustainable.
