As one raised in poverty in Chicago, moving to Salt Lake City with $60 dollars in my pocket, I went to this with some Larsen children and it changed my life. Being a long hair rock guitarist, it humbled me and set in me a glorious feeling in spirit and mind.One of the most joyous periods of my life.

The first time I was introduced to classical music was And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,in High School almost 40 years ago.This type of music was so soothing and most importantly was based on Scriptures esp our Saviour Jesus Christ. I have always listened this piece from the Tabernacle Choir.This is Heavenly music and I love it still meaningful even after all these years. Thanks Mr Handel.

The Tabernacle Choir wonderfully expanded their repertoire when they added the full orchestra, as well as a full bell choir. I have sung in three performances of the Messiah in California, Washington and Nebraska, and have come to love the way the music and words from the King James Version of the Bible bring the Good News of the Savior, Jesus Christ, to life in the listeners' hearts.

When my mum was with us, and younger, she sang for 25 years with the Huddersfield Choral Society, and they performed the Messiah every Easter and I was privileged to always have a ticket. I haven't heard it for some years now so I came across it this morning and thought - oh wow let me listen. I practically know if off by heart. The choir sang it well but not with the "welly" that the Choral gave this great work. But I am extremely grateful this Easter Sunday morning for this amazing experience and memory. And to have the opportunity to sing, albeit scratchily, with my favourites. Gorgeous. I thought the sopranos were magnificent. I hope my mum has called in to listen to this today. She would have really loved it. I have changed my mind, they did give it some welly and were all so controlled and you can see that singing this remarkable work makes people believe in it.
@schizoidman79163 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by "welly"? I have never heard the term.
@lindabarker82083 жыл бұрын
@@schizoidman7916 It is a Yorkshire expression, I think. It means they really go for it and sing from the heart and soul. I once had a seat in the middle of the upper tier in the local Town Hall, which was referred to as the "gods". I was right in the middle and they sang the Amen chorus and it felt like I had been blown out of the back of the building. Also the National Anthem, that was always incredible - two verses. You have never heard it sung like that before....

I agree with you, Vernon. I'm not a fan of Handel's offering of "The Messiah," as it is often done poorly and for the sake of doing it, IMHO. As a musician, I don't find it particularly interesting nor beautiful; however, the text is unmistakably strong, as it is direct scripture. Having said all that, my favorite chorus is "And With His Stripes We are Healed."

I was so blessed to sing this lovely cantata in special chorus in high school, when God had not dismissed as He is today. Absolutely lovely!

It's nice to hear this masterpiece in English. Thank you LDS @ Temple Square! I usually listen to it in German. 😊 Much Bigger choir on this version, too 🥰

Being a German myself, I prefer the English version. It's the original language, and the words fit much better to the music than in the German translation.

Every word of this magnificent oratorio comes from the King James Bible. Hearing the words caused me to study the Bible to find the quotes. That was 1973; the words still inspire me today.

A superb version of this wonderful work. Besides having exceptional voices the diction of the soloists was a real joy. There was nothing to detract from the brilliance of the whole in this performance, which must become one of my all-time favourites. Thank you to everyone concerned.
