Hi I have an audition for CJMEA and in the audition will you have to play the whole song? And does it matter if you play slower?
@Dipti-wd3zw11 ай бұрын
I'm auditioning too! For your first question, no they will not tell you to play the whole song. They will tell you specific measures to play and thats usually it. Playing slower doesn't matter, as long as you have the right dynamics and articulation. However, someone who plays faster but still with clarity, might give them a better chance to get in. Hope these answers help!! And good luck for your audition!

Actually… Allegro is 120-140 so your supposed to be at least playing at 120, Practice it at 50 and get faster yes but for performance you’re going to be starting fast and then by the sixteenth notes you’ll be going faster than the camera man.

In my opinion, the Allegro tempo marking on this etude makes no sense - I pretty much disregard it in my interpretation and teaching. If you try playing this at 8th = 120, it's way too slow, while dotted quarter is 120 is impossibly fast. I'd encourage everyone to pick a tempo that's challenging but achievable, and makes sense with the music. Somewhere around dotted quarter = 50-60, or 8th = 150-180.

@@maxschwimmer3862 That makes perfect sense and it’s smart, but what I’ve learned as a growing musician is that if you start things slow enough that you can play it and then it gets easier and you can slowly speed it up and then at some point you’ll make it towards the original tempo making it so you can play it at full speed an even improve a lot more, otherwise yeah I agree a slower tempo would be a easier choice.

@@JazzyRubberDuck if you know anyone who can play this at dotted quarter = 120, I’d love to meet them! It seems like an impractical tempo for most mortals.

@@maxschwimmer3862 It seems impossible but I’m sure it is, it’s something to slowly work towards is what I’m trying to say, it’s a goal to try and achieve so don’t nail it down to “don’t even try” board because quite frankly it’s best to believe in yourself and do your best to achieve something like this because then you get better at the instrument doing it.
