HANDEL vs SCARLATTI - Organ Harpsichord Battle - La Folia

In this sequel to their previous 1709 encounter, Maestro Händel and Scarlatti reunite for another musical duel. Last time, Scarlatti left Händel in awe of his skills on the harpsichord. Now, they face off once more, each showing their virtuosity on both the organ and harpsichord. Watch as they push their skills to the limit, improvising on the iconic La Folia theme- translated "Madness." Who will claim victory in this impressive display of musical skill?

Yes, more! And if you love La Folia (over 100 versions on KZbin, some of them "hidden" under different titles) try the Folia by Scalieri with the orchestra conducted by Bamert (this is the onlly one I know of on YT that does justice to it - the other ones are "dead"). The Scarlieri arrangement is way ahead of its time, and "written with thunder and lightening" to paraphrase what Pres. Wilson said about a D.W.Griffith film).

Interesting how rock music/pop songs get a lot more "hits" than La Folia, but there are many, many more arrangements and performances of La Folia than of any pop song, more than a hundred on YT alone . . . there is just a lot more to La Folia than any pop music . . .

Well… we knew that the battle did not happen in the beginning with these type of instruments for sure; in any case the conclusion was that Händel at the time considered superior on the organ, and instead Scarlatti with the harpsichord… but after several hours of musical fighting though.

Yes! I've heard 100s of "Folias" and Salieri's is one of my two favorites -- but it has to be performed by a good orchestra, like Bamert's, or it dies . . . it doesn't sound like what most people think is a Salieri piece -- it's decades ahead of other stuff composed at the same time (c. 1815?)
