Knew a guy that had a squib load at the range in his revolver. He didnt know he had squibbed a round until he followed another round behind it. Bastard got lucky and put 2 holes in his target and his gun ran both rounds out the barrel no problem

It happened to me today on the first round, I only loaded one because the cartridges I was using were old. I knew what had happened immediately when there was no recoil or anything all I heard was the firing pin drop an a little bit of smoke, I got the bullet out an fired another round an stopped shooting because I need new ammunition an do not want a catastrophic malfunction.

Fired about 250000 single shots in my career, didn't happen once. i guess you never stop learning new things. except if you use good ammo. just saying. was it old ammo? bad manufacturing? remember, the ammo makes the gun fire. fr

If there’s not enough powder in the ammo it won’t have enough pressure and it ends up getting stuck

i only learned about it today, from what i seen in a video the person making the video said to not trust ammunition unless it was made in a factory or you reloaded it yourself, my guess is it happens if a round doesnt have enough gunpowder in it

Seen a .22lr 10/22 that had a squib and 5 bullets stuck behind the squib the barrel cracked and lead oozing out the crack. The ruger 10/22’s are beasts

A squib is a jam not malfunction. Jams result in the gun needing to be broken down and use of tools, malfunctions can be cleared reflexively. Malfunctions are like Type 1/2/3s (failure to fire, stovepipe, failure to eject)

This is most commonly caused by no powder in the case, keep the powder hoppers full and use a powder cop die when reloading and it shouldn’t happen

This happened in my 1911 with .45 acp Russian rounds I didn’t know this was a thing, it’s good I stopped unloaded and checked my gun could’ve been bad

It's a problem with the powder in the cartridge, usually not enough or none

No i don't think so, the pressure in a gun is so great that not dirt can stop the bullet, atleast no dirt because of abrasion or carbon. This happens if you have to little powder, the powder is bad or you have no powder and accidently loaded a round with only a primer. It is caused by to little pressure.

What causes the squib load? Is it because the gun powder is too old and it doesn't all burn up? What would cause the low pressure in the first place? Is this more likely to happen in manufactured ammo or reloaded ammo where powder discharge is measured, weighed and checked often for consistency? If you know of another video that covers this concern please advise.

It can be caused by bad powder not necessarily old but maybe exposed to moisture preventing it from properly burning or not burning at all, as well as no powder being in the case and in that case the primer will do all of the work pushing the bullet into the barrel.

Supposedly, that's what happened to Brandon Lee. There was a blank in the chamber and a bullet stuck in the barrel. You know the rest.

I removed magazine. Locked slide and looked down barrel while pointing down range. Used flashlight to look and identified load. I took off barrel after and tried to remove but couldn’t. The manufacturer of ammo asked me to send to them and they took care of it. It was a bit of a hassle but I didn’t want to damage it
