OH 😯 A bigger paint board. NICE diy! The score is beneficial at the back. It folds up nicely. ▫️ Once again… ✔️SMART GIRL ‼️

Thank you for sharing your videos on your tips and hacks for making painting plein air and even in the studio so much easier. I have three different sized bags and have triple of some items that I use! This video inspired me to sort through them and condense the things that are the same into one Ziploc bag, so that I don't have to pack and unpack things so often! I have a very small one that I carry "just in case" I can paint something...one a little bigger for actual plein air sketchbook painting, and then a larger one for using a tripod and pochode box for bigger, and more time consuming paintings. This video would also be helpful for those just starting to paint plein air so they know they don't have to carry "the kitchen sink" to accomplish some fun painting!♥️

Thank you so much! I have so many different bags and painting supplies too! It makes it hard to decide what you really need to bring. When I'm painting outside, I find it much easier if I can simplify things. The lighter the painting kit the more you will go paint. If you have to carry too much, it makes things much harder. I'm always trying to figure out better ways to make painting in the field easier. I bought an actual small pochade box, but it was too heavy to stand and paint. So I decided to send it back. I have a tripod setup that works just fine if I want to pack a tripod. But I feel like it's too much trouble to bring all that gear. I like being able to move in a hurry if a bee, or any other pest tries to bother me while I am painting. I can't paint if a bee is after me. LOL! Thanks for the kind comments! I really appreciate the feedback! Good luck with your watercolor journey!

Love your voice, it is so peaceful. The painting turned out so good and I really got to get my plein air kit finished. I need to make one of those Art board palettes so that I can carry stuff around better.

peacekeeperz81 Thank you very much! I really like using these kind of foam boards for artboards because they are so lightweight and very sturdy. I have some in different sizes. Some that fold and some that lay flat. There are videos that I did that show how I made them. All I do is wrap the (usually 9x12) foam backing board with packing tape. So easy and functional.

I absolutely love this travel board! I have been researching supplies, since I’m a beginner. Everything seems to be so precious and expensive. I prefer to repurpose stuff!

Thank you so much Teresa! I know art supplies can be very expensive and when you are just starting out you don't always know what materials you need. I like making my own things because I feel accomplished when I discover some little art hack that I didn't have to buy. I like to save my money to spend on paint, paper and brushes! You gave me an idea for another video. I think it would be good to give beginners an idea of the most basic/quality art supplies they can get on a budget.

Love your videos, art, and ideas. How is the compositional tool working out for you? That it has the red lens is so appealing. Lately, have needed to go very lightweight for my wrist. Have a setup in my car for times when I'm waiting for my husband while he has a doctor visit. Along with pencils, I have a small clipboard, small watercolor sketchbook, magnetic clip, piece of handkerchief, waterbrush, and a small watercolor palette. I made the palette from a small, thin 2x3 plastic box. I think it had gum. I used a glue gun to make dividers. Filled with 10 Daniel Smith watercolors. Have a piece of roughish plastic cut from a frosted file folder backed by white duck tape for mixing. It's cut to fit inside the top of the palette. Have magnetic strips, business card size, attached to the top and bottom outside. Attach palette to one side of sketchbook with the magnetic cip.. Use a piece of plastic under an elastic to protect side of sketchbook that has open palette. If my wrist was better, probably wouldn't need the clipboard. It makes it easier to hold the sketchbook. Use pockets for waterbrush and pens and/or pencils. With that setup, I can stand and sketch for quite awhile. Like that having various art materials in my car makes waiting times so much more fun. Though MUST sketch in shade (live in Florida). If I'm leaving the house to do plein air sketching, have a set up that uses a water bottle in a cross body sling, a sketchbook clipped to a shoulder strap. I leave it loose if walking. I also have lots of stuff in cargo pockets. I have a small clear plastic pouch attached to my belt with a carabiner that either has a Art Tool Kit palette or fountain pens with water-soluble ink. Use waterbrushes. Use wide brimmed hat in car that I keep in car.

Thank you! Sounds like you have as many painting kits and setups as I do. I have different kits depending on where I'm going. I do find the lighter the kit the more I will feel like taking it. Therefore the more I paint. It's nice to have everything, but then it gets so bothersome to carry. Which brings me to the viewfinder. I've only used it a couple of times to be honest. It's just something else to carry. It did seem to be helpful. I just haven't used it enough to get the hang of it. I will have to get it out and see if it is useful enough to pack with me next time. I might try make a little video using it soon. 🙂

I have the same set of travel brushes-- they are good, and the price is right. So right, in fact, that I bought a second set.

Yeah these brushes are really good! I reach for them all the time. I don’t feel like I have to be so precious handling them. I actually bought another set of travel brushes and some regular sable brushes of the same brand.

I also think the extra flap on those palettes useless as they don't lay flat unless they're already attached to the bottom of the tin.

Yes, I think they just get in the way most of the time.
