It's been almost 4 years since you originally posted this. Do you still read the comments? Either way, I'm going to throw this out there. Dad was an electrician and in the mid-70's he made a homemade Tesla coil to show us kids, We were all little ( I was about 10) and it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Dad passed away 2 1/2 years ago and I sure do miss that man. So many interesting things he taught us. Thank you for bringing back good memories to me.

If the women who is robbing the house shoots her machine gun towards the portable Tesla Coil, my question is : Will the bolts of electricity focus onto the multiple rounds in the air and strike out in a straight line towards the female robber? I guess the real question is , do the bolts need ground or is any ( metal ) object in the vicinity attractive . Awesome video, I'm a new subscriber. Eric Curry

Well not to be that guy, but probably not. For example primitive people of the Pacific Islands who saw US and Japanese soldiers with all sorts of fancy toys first thought the soldiers gods but quickly realized that what made them special were their items, their cargo. That is how Cargo Cults formed where islanders tried to carve gun looking items out of wood and in a famous case headphones as a means of getting airdrops to give them supplies. This device is pretty obvious and Greeks are pretty clever so it would probably be figured out quickly.

Voltage, current, and resistance are all connected. The human body is about 100,000 ohms of resistance. Voltage/resistance=amperage It only take around .5 of an amp to kill you. Going by this equation it would take at least 50,000 volts to kill you. Generally people use 10,000V when demonstrating this but that gun definitely looks like it's more than 10,000V No clue what's in there but V/R=A Is the math
@sphinx007 жыл бұрын
Rory M Duration of current also matters. Natural static charge easily accumulated in dry environment may result in tens of kV on a body that is enough to cause a spark across a few mm of air but it does not kill anybody.

The output is not microamps - Styropyro did a video on the topic of electrical safety where he measured the current output of one of his Tesla coils to be like 3amps, and similar arc length. That sounds like alot of power but the duty cycle is very low so it isn't. He also said the high frequency was the reason you were not effected - too fast for nerve response. In a qcw coil like the Tesla gun the frequency will probably be at least 300kHz.

has Destin done a video on why electricity looks like that where it slowly goes out and then suddenly bursts apart into branches? if not I would love to see one
@jynx25018 жыл бұрын
Xanthanarium This is kind of a physics 101 subject. electricity constantly tries to find a path to complete a circuit. all those branches are different paths to points of moisture in the air. If you watch the slowmo on the big coil in the driveway, you see when it hits the ground, that is the brightest bolt. thats where all electricity is trying to go. There are much more in depth explanations on this subject. Im sure you could find one with some quick research.

I had the honor of witnessing a massive Tesla coil myself - it really cannot be expressed in words just how amazing they are. And it was in a Faraday cage too! Also, that slow-mo was beautiful. It really is amazing just how much voltage the human body can take, providing the amperage is low. I've seen people shoot tens of thousands of volts through their body with no ill effect because it was suuuuper low amperage. I think it was like, 2 mA or less.
