Loved how you laid out the tile so the "veins" would be continuous. Very nice and professional.

You are one very talented man, those templates were brilliant! I love how the slate tile goes up the wall, and all the time spent on the veined tile was so worth it, it’s gorgeous. Stabilizing that seemingly ugly wall is the best idea ever, turning it into an art piece maybe framed with some nice wood! What a great episode, thanks so much! Nitches get stitches!!!!

Thanks Nana, the templating is a lot of fun especially when you see it all come together. haha!

When I was new to woodworking and building, I'd see a lot of youtube build and how-to videos where the craftsman would bam-bam-bam out the parts in rapid-fire. They didn't show the painstaking, thoughtful moments that made the project actually work and come together properly, or even safely. It was like they'd toss it together and it would just work-out great. Needless to say, I didn't learn the art of careful thought or precision, and many of my early projects failed spectacularly, and I'm SUPER lucky that my self-preservation instincts often won the battle over youthful immortality, and I still have all my parts. Your videos have offered not only the joys of watching a craftsman work, but you've taught us to be thoughtful, careful, and meticulous. I find it amazing that, when working with tiles that can't simply be replaced and substituted for another tile, you've managed to not waste a single one. I'd have burned through the whole lot before getting a single cut right. Well... previously, anyways. With our current builds underway, I think carefully (obsessively) about getting every millimeter right the first time, because time is resources, and in this era, neither is replaceable up here. Not for us. I often think as I look at our work, "Mike would be proud." Someday, if we're lucky, you guys will take a vacation up here and survey my work and get a chance to see firsthand what your student has made.

My late husband was diagnosed as having Cerebral Palsy at 18 months of age. He spent his life battling mobility issues. For those without a disability I know the ADA is a real drag. For those who daily deal with disabilities, The ADA is a great help, and still disabled people face prejudices and barriers that destroys lives and hope. Accessible bathrooms are a consideration able-bodied people can not fully appreciate unless they find themselves in a cast that extends from hip to toe, or otherwise confined to a wheelchair for more than 6 weeks. It may not seem possible that a handicapped person would want to access your workshop Mike, but accidents happen, and any person at any time can become a handicapped person, so please say a little prayer for those afflicted with a disability, and do try to comply with the ADA as much as possible

Frustrating, but the end result was worth it. I like that you take your time thinking things through before committing to them. I've had to learn that the hard way, but now that we're building our home from scratch, the effort is paying off for us. Things line up properly, corners are square, and we spend way less time correcting our mistakes now. I just enjoy watching you think about things as much as doing them.
