Handicapped parking violators beware

Tax-free weekend and back-to-school shopping are not the easiest trips to make, but that does not mean you can cut corners when it comes to parking.

Violators should HAVE to spend an entire Day at an Injured Veterans Centre helping the handicapped to get around, learn to walk again, shopping, visiting a Library. That just might help them to understand they are scamming the disadvantaged, their own neighbours, friends, family and Armed Forces.

Raise it to $2000 and people will stop abusing the parking spots. My sister is handicapped and we have trouble finding a spot sometimes at our local Walmart. We have 2 Walmarts within 5 Miles of us and now with the Corona virus going on It's even harder to find a space.

In part, this issue is because most city agencies do not do their job enforcing the laws protecting the disabled, no priority is assigned to correct or enforce the law. Large fines, towing, these actions can make money to pay for enforcement. If tickets were made payable when people get their car sticker, people would have no choice but to pay or no sticker, and another ticket and fine. It can be a real legitimate moneymaker for a city and protect the innocent.

if they only knew the hell the handicapped person has to go through just to get ready and to get there...then some have to turn around and go home. I saw one poor guy in his chair out in the rain because some ahole parked in the stripped zone next to his handicap Van. The poor guy could not get back inside! One good fine and then jail if they do it again should solve the problem.

actually, they can be IN the store when you pull in the parking space to join them or pick them up....they don't have to be in the car when you park...could have dropped them off earlier

It varies state by state but here in Ohio you are given a registration form similar to a car registration form with the owner of the placards name on it. Also the police can run the numbers on the placard to see who it is registered to.

I'd like to respond to your question that's okay if you are picking somebody up and you park in that spot and if an officer ask to see the person you're picking up have that person stand on the curb and wait for you to drive up they'll follow you just to make sure and ass that person if the plaquer belongs to them and if you don't have the little paper registration card that goes with the placard normally it's kept in the car but they give you a wallet-size to but if you don't have it you just show him your driver's license then they run the name and I'll come back to that person it's happened with me and my uncle he takes me places because I can't drive and I showed the officer my driver's license no problems
