I've watched a ton of PB videos on YT and this is one of the first I've found to address the issue of hitting balls with crazy spins. I like to bump short balls softly to the outside lines, but I find this precarious when the ball arrives with a wicked spin, especially with my new paddle, with a much grippier surface. Sometimes the ball kicks so hard off my paddle it goes 2 feet wide. I'm in mixed rec play and you get any old ball. They all bounce and grip differently. I'm going to try this idea of hitting crap drives to where they can't "shape" the ball so easily, and see how often the next ball is an improvement on my circumstance.

Let us know how it goes. For weird bounce situations, really shorten the backswing. Love the name "After the Smash" :)

Could you address how to properly/successfully return a hard hit top spin drive?
@BestPickleballCoach9 ай бұрын
Hello. If you are referring to a 3rd shot off of a spun return, you can use the strategy in this video if the spin is too much to third from.

Where do you recommend driving the ball from the baseline? To your opponents backhand side? or between their right shoulder hip area?
@BestPickleballCoach2 жыл бұрын
Hello Rob. The drive here is a defensive shot. Just get it over and then drop the 5th. The hip shot is an attacking drive - usually from inside the court. Hope this helps.

Long dink
@BestPickleballCoach Жыл бұрын
Dropping the third shot there with a long dink is an option - but these sorts of returns make it more difficult. Drive the 3rd and drop the 5th here.

Those balls to you were hit too soft. Do the video again, but this time have the other player drive the ball hard with speed.
@BestPickleballCoach Жыл бұрын
Do you expect that those cannot be driven back by the serve team?
@stevenlevy3460 Жыл бұрын
@@BestPickleballCoach I've not seen them driven back. Drive implying speed. Usually, I see weak or no returns to hard hit serve returns.
@BestPickleballCoach Жыл бұрын
@@stevenlevy3460 now you lost me. There is a hard hit serve return and the opponent simply misses their next shot (the 3rd)?
