It is a very strong glue :D And the heels are attached with a few screws.

@@alexanderbratscher Are the screws inserted after the shoe is removed from the last? I'm working on my first pair, and this is the one step I'm unsure of.

@@doctor-aesthetic Yes. While the last is in the shoe, the heel is glued to prevent it from moving later. Then the last is removed, three holes are drilled with a 1.5-1.8mm drill, and we use 25mm long screws. If you have any other questions, feel free to write to us. :)

I would love you to make a pair of hand made, made to measure boots for my wife, as she finds it almost impossible to get the correct ankle width in boots... most are way too narrow for her

What kind of glue is used?

A good, strong contact adhesive is used to stick the lining and upper to the insole board. Various adhesives are used to stick the soles to the shoe. They very depending on the sole material as some materials will react badly to certain adhesives. There is a glue called Hirschkleber that is starchy and it is used for the contoured heel counter shaper part and also the toe puff material. This glue dries really hard, but slowly so you can shape those parts easily.

@@macphail1974 You are more than welcome. I did a shoe making degree at London College of Fashion. Happy to help other people. Shoemaking is a wonderful thing to do. It's not hard to learn the basics. Mastering the art takes a lot of practice though. I always think one of the best things to do at the start is buy some cheap shoes and take them apart and study the construction. You can make shoes any way you like. As long as they stay in one piece and look nice then all is golden.
