It is easier to make a short video than to explain it in words, as soon as I can I do it. Cast parts are often used because they are cheaper.

Wow. I know I’m really late to this video but can you give links to the tools you use? It would really help beginners like me.

I never thought of describing the tools I use, I assumed that the basic tools of my trade were known to everyone. If you are interested you can visit the online shop of Luigi Dal Trozzo, supplier of tools for goldsmiths, on the site you can find photos of all the equipment. If you need specific information you can contact me by email that you find on my site that I advertise at the beginning of each video.

muy buen trabajo, yo soy joyero desde los 13 años , solo que para mi, el detalle en el interior también cuenta, yo aprendi a hacerle el mate de oro por dentro de las joyas, así el brillo, es afuera y por dentro también
@scaffoal6 жыл бұрын

Saludos!!

I love your work scaffoal. A quick (and newbie) question if you don't mind : is this a durable clasp compared to, say, a spring ring or lobster clasp ? By that I mean, does the mechanism last and function well over time, with possibly thousands of opening/closing ? Besides, is it sturdy, does it resist being accidentally "pulled"/snatched ? Thank you for your help.
@scaffoal6 жыл бұрын
Each closure has its use and its reason to be used, even for aesthetic choices. This closure, if made well, lasts over time, integrates well with some types of chains, bracelets and necklace clasps. (I use google translator, excuse the errors)
@teno7776 жыл бұрын
scaffoal thank you very much for your answer scaffoal. I am working on a « standalone » clasp that ties both ends of a spliced rope. I craft the clasp from titanium and I explore new ways to make it, hence my question.

The problem i had was soldering the push button onto the tongue part,without making the tongue soft and becoming weak and sometimes too soft to work.Do you let the tongue air cool or dunk in water ,acid asap after soldering to keep it's strength?
@scaffoal4 жыл бұрын
After welding, to restore the strength of the spring, you have to hammer it slightly, to work harden the metal.

if the slot that allows the passage of the spring is precise, it takes very little for the spring to catch.

I have made several attempts at this closure with varying degrees of success. The problem I have is that when soldering the release button the spring, the spring loses its spring. Have you had this problem? Further to my last comment, I was using .7mm 925 silver and the closure was a bit smaller than yours which I might add was much more pleasing to the eye.
@scaffoal6 жыл бұрын
it is normal, the metal when it is heated loses its elasticity. you have to hammer the spring lightly, in order to harden it.

Thank you most kindly for your reply. Yes I understand that the spring needs to be work hardened after it is heated but the spring is quite small (less than 5mm x 10mm x.5mm and work hardening tends to deform it somewhat. The spring release button was formed by slitting the end of the spring into three prongs. The centre prong was bent upwards to form a small goose neck which when pressed down, released the catch. Very difficult to work harden. Never mind, I'll work out something, perhaps using fine spring steel. By the way, your work is most elegant.
