I was interested in getting into woodwork, what with early retirement and all that. Now I'm convinced. This guy has the perfect mindset; just look at the neatness of his rolled up sleeves! Reminds me of being in the military where looking and feeling smart and neat carried over into everything you did.

In this lockdown I have been watching DIY projects videos. The attitude for finishing and precision is beyond compare. The ingenious methods of making the task look like a cakewalk is commendable. I am a doctor and can appreciate the way you work like a plastic surgeon you have amazed me so much with your skills that I have decided to start woodworking as a hobby. I live in India where carpenters are available for very low wages but most of them do not have this need to achieve such accuracy and finesse in finishing. You truly are exemplary.

So great! I'm making some of these for hardwood edgebanding. Might try to put a spring in the cams for self-grabbing.

I just watched this for first time and, as usual, very impressive. One thought -- make a few without the screw, round off and smooth the interior edges of the top and you have a great tool for picking up and carrying sheet goods.

This is an excellent idea. Same clamping method works well in securing ropes on boats but not easy (due to the grip being less) when you want to clamp a hard board. I have been testing these for a while and I think the next stage should be to find a shape that will help clamping mortise and tenon joints like securing a table apron to the legs. It will eliminate the need to have long bar clamps. One needs to check what forces will do to the clamp frame but perhaps a strong F clamp shape can be tried. Looking forward to hearing the suggestions. Well done and keep up the good work.

Very nice clamps! One thought, is the threaded insert you put on top, would be better served it was if it was put in on the underside of the clamp. The clamping force you apply is always trying to push the insert out of the wood, if you put it on the under side anytime you use the clamp it would be pulling the insert into the wood. My .02 cents worth.

Genius! Anyone happen to know how to go about designing the proper curvature for those little pinchers? Or is it just a golden ratio spiral?
@Capnmax4 жыл бұрын
As long as they're close to that shape and have the rubber on them it will work just fine. The offset hole serves to lock up the clamp as pressure is applied to the foot.
@GoatZilla4 жыл бұрын
I dunno, the more I look at it, the more I think it's a Golden Spiral. Don't eschew the math behind some of this stuff. That shape I think specifically ensures you land against the object at a tangent relative to the hole. Mathematically.
@Capnmax4 жыл бұрын
@@GoatZilla don't let me stop you, by all means, go to town and spiral away.

Good video--bad in terms of 5 or more separate ad interruptions...simpler u-shaped right angled design would have saved nearly 10 minutes of watching taping and template routing and 2 or 3 ad interruptions..
@jisakukobo4 жыл бұрын
sorry·· But to continue making prototypes, you need advertising.
@embwee4 жыл бұрын
@@jisakukobo of course you need ads, but it becomes obvious when the video is tedious shots of template routing to get to the length that warrants 5 ad interruptions...I would watch two shorter ones with as many videos, and c'mon, this design is fine, but it's not NASA of COVID-19 vaccine research, and so does not require research and development (R&D) level prototyping.
