_thoughts:_ i speak a little japanese and very few words chinese. when i hear non-korean idols speaking korean, it almost always sounds very natural to me...partly because i've gotten used to it over the years. but that you hear them speak in their mother tongue is rather rare. however, there are a few persons that i could listen to for hours (or even days): _handong_ *&* _yuqi_ (gidle), when they speak chinese 🤍 _hitomi_ (former iz*one) *&* _lea_ (secret number), when they speak japanese 🤍 and _dita_ (secret number), when she speaks indonesian 🤍

Handong is my spirit animal for a reason!!! She reminds me so much of my wife and I've always had a major soft spot for her. Our Ice Princess has come so far in every single way. As painful as her stay in China and Deukae's separation that time was, she's grown so much thanks to that experience and so have their special bonds between each other. I've always admired Dreamcatcher's bonds with each other and how they are so whipped for Dongie and have supported her in learning Korean and also getting to know and understand their culture from the start. Since I don't speak Korean, I think I'd find it hard knowing what's formal and what's not. It's not like Japanese where you add honorifics at the end of people or things, it seems more subtle. It's also not just speaking politely either. Plus, it seems Korean is geared towards knowing the age of whoever it is you're talking to and speaking accordingly, so it's not just knowing the words it's the hierarchy of whatever group you're in. AND to top things off if you're too formal it can sound rude, but if you're not formal enough you're rude. So it's like this crazy balancing act that I can't imagine being able to keep track of if you're trying to learn the language.
