Dave tunes a handpan a customer brought in that was purchased on eBay from an unknown manufacturer, possibly from China. These handpans are usually pretty to look at, but are not tuned well at all. Dave works hard to make it sound the best that it can!

I feel like i was very fortunate to have been able to get my first handpan from dave. He made me a 15 note equinox in the key of F and I am beyond blown away at this handpan. I will have to post some videos of its sound qaulity

I got an asteman in yesterday off of Amazon. And it sounded perfect. Tonight I noticed the D ding was totally out of tune. So I had a great sounding instrument for almost 24 hours.

@William L. I just got a new Asteman and 5 out of the 9 notes are a full semitone sharp (the ding is not one of them). I've been scouring the internet to see if retuning is something that I can do myself. I have retuned and repaired lots of instruments but never a handpan. All I need is to know what to do and I am confident I can do the job. Proper guidance on how to soundly lower a note to it's correct tone would be hugely appreciated.

@@13YasonBey I wish it were that easy. Tuning handpans is a skill that can take a long time to learn. Simple mistakes can make the note worse than before. Were you able to get it back into tune?

Apologies if I missed it, but it would be really helpful if you told us what you're doing. You're hitting it with a hammer obviously, but how are you changing the pitch up and down? Where are you hitting to make the adjustment? If I understand, the cupped area is the primary note and the surrounding indentation is a 5th? What are you doing to affect them independently from each other and what raises or lowers the pitch? Thanks!!

Such a bummer if you have to tune your hp, after purchase. It's hours of work, and one needs special hammers, a good ear, and ear protectors!, and a good tuning app, and such. I wonder if this out if tune problem is only for Chinese handpans? Difficult to send them back, to be tuned!! 🤪😔
