These are the best short staff tutorials for spinning I have seen. Thank you. I especially appreciate the more martial intent in your movement. It seems to make it more solid and practical, yet still flowing. Very nice!

Thank you, this is really cool. I have noticed that your stick has the grip tape. What type do you use or recommended? Also so you have any tip or trick to wrap it do it stay on tightly and does not leaving bump or revealing the end of it. Thanks.

I'm struggling with the figure 8 but the handrolls are very natural for me
Where do I start? And what order should I do them?
@NuMorDeFoame3 жыл бұрын
When I balance it from 3 to 10 o'clock, the staff hits the back of my palm hard and swings to the right a lot. Should I swing harder? Didn't compensate for the stick going away.

Hi!! Thank you for the great tutorials! I just finished making my own bo staff and it only cost me $8.13 (I live in Las Vegas)!! I found your Basic Flow 1/5 and 2/5 tutorials but I can't find the rest. Are they titled the same?
Hey Michelle, I have a quick question about the reverse handroll. So when I roll the staff from the inside of my hand to the outside I can get it 99% of the time with very little movement, however when rolling it under my hand (second roll) it never clings to my hand and instead it heads toward my left or I have to rapidly flip my hand to catch it. Any tips? Side Note: Been a student of Ninjutsu for about a decade now and would love to know your thoughts on Ninjutsu compared to other martial arts (since you clearly have background in a few)

Most likely what is happening is that you are not turning your hand over far enough before letting the staff go. Basically, you have to turning it enough to find that tipping point where the staff has no choice but to go to the other side of the hand. Other tips: 1. Hold the staff closer to the end to create more stick to go around. 2. Keep your arm and rolling hand still. Extra movements in attempt to catch the staff can actually hinder your chances to catch it. Hope that helps!

is it normal to catch the staff slightly off center ?how do i compensate for that?
@michelle-c-smith6 жыл бұрын
Yes! You actually want it to be off centre. The centre of your staff should actually pass over the middle of your hand while you handroll so it is correct to catch off centre. There's no need to compensate as this would actually make the skill harder and more likely to fail.

Michelle Christa Smith aah thank you so much!!! I love ur videos so btw! I started teaching myself this afternoon. I built one using your other video! You explain things so well and it’s so cool seeing you transition these tricks into a bunch of different weapons :’) ty for letting me embrace the little kid in me who always wanted to be a ninja

I love your vids!! I have tried staff manipulation before and am still having the same problem. I can do the forward movements fine (figure 8s, handrolls) and have been able to gain more speed when doing them, but when it comes to the reverses, the staff goes flying.
