"If you move the controllers outside of the field of view you lose all tracking immediately" I understand why people think that given the camera setup, but the accelerometers in the controllers do a pretty good job of tracking when they're outside the camera's FOV. With first-hand experience in WMR with VRchat, onward, Superhot and Beatsaber, I can say WMR has never struggled with reaching outside of my FOV. Maybe it's a Steam VR thing because it has definitely gotten better with updates.
@MrAntimationStudios5 жыл бұрын
@@lostecho4394 Up until a few months ago that was my experience. But recently I've been able to maintain 6DOF outside of my FOV almost indefinitely, however after 10 seconds the drift does become noticeable. It may be the case that some mod I have installed is causing this behavior.
@Sevendogtags5 жыл бұрын
I have WMR as well and it is definitely does not last 10 seconds outside camera's view. It can predict your trajectory for 1-2 seconds outside of camera's view and then after that it turns into a 3DOF controller until it's back in view. Of course this is enough for any game that requires you grab a weapon/arrow etc.. from your back. And the improvements have nothing to do with SteamVR. It's the "Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR" app that has improved a lot and Windows updates.

@@lostecho4394 by every means terrible man. First the optics are the worst... God rays galore and the screens are very low resolution. I own rift, vive, lenovo explorer, odyssey, and odyssey plus and out of all of them vive and rift are really sub part in visual fidelity. This is why I'm excited about the hp reverb and why I'm so disappointed and pissed off at oculus/Facebook. The new valve index I really dont think that's going to have any better screens then a vive pro since its only display port 1.2 so inherent limitations on bandwidth.
@fiberop6355 жыл бұрын
My issue is that many games are very much hindered or unplayable with the rift. Pretty much any sim or any first person shooter gets extremely blurry with distance. Sims are all terrible unless they are made cartoony which helps but then not much of a sim. Even the odyssey plus isnt enough to have a crisp image for simulations and it's by far surpasses anything oculus has. And honestly with how bad the God rays are on the rift I really dont like using it. I havent sold it yet because I'm just a bit too tied up to deal with having to.
@fiberop6355 жыл бұрын
@@lostecho4394 I dont have anything wrong it's just i have used better displays and if you once again play any sim will notice how bad it really is. When you cant read gauges because the resolution is so low that it's more of a reference point vs a actual guage that's bad. Like I said the odyssey plus is way ahead but even still it's not there I'm hoping the reverb will be closer. On normal displays I normally play on a 4k panel or a 3440x1440 100hz so maybe I'm just useto better clarity. I hineslty think the rift is subpar and everyone that I have shown it too says the same thing its blurry (they dont know what resolution is) and then I give them the odyssey or the odyssey plus and they notice a huge difference but also still note that it's still not like a monitor. If you are flying a war bird and have to lean in to check manifold pressure or oil ect then you know the headset isnt really good enough. On the other side is if you cant spot planes due to the resolution being so muddy then once again. Afterwards you put on a better display and its day and night then well the evidence is clear....

One of the unmentioned perks. Is the Bluetooth controller now being embedded in the device. Unlike first gen WMR devices (samsung odyssey+ has integrated BT). While it may seem like a trivial aspect. It in fact does make for a much more consistent experience with the controllers. The bluetooth communication between the game controllers head unit is critical to maintaining proper positioning and behavior of the controllers in-game. Having personally had to work with multiple bluetooth devices (some have horrible signal performance) Even good ones can have a difficult time maintaining consistent communication 100% of the time. nearby RF interference from other electronics. Can he a highly deleterious effect on BT. now that the bluetooth device is going to always be no more then 2 to 3 feet from it. Will significantly help the performance of this controller type. That said more camera's would be a most welcome addition to the tech. And all that really stands in the way of inside out tracking being the clear adopter standard in the future of VR.

I believe there's a way to use vive lighthouses and controllers with a wmr headset. I've seen a KZbinr do it. I have a Lenovo and use it regularly to play games. Tracking is rarely an issue. Like it has higher resolution but don't like the lens or the controllers or outside tracking. Feels Like headsets are only getting one thing better and keeping everything else the same
@burger11135 жыл бұрын
Hmm interesting... My ipd is kinda small but if that works that would be nice... The tracking is still a deal breaker for me though. They really need to get it to track a little further behind the body. At least upto where the controller is directly above the head or above the shoulder. Many games specifically require players to reach up over the shoulder to grab stuff, so...

I like the strait-shooting sincere HP rep. "rep" is hardly even an accurate reflection of his title, but I suppose it's still not wrong.

i thought HP said that the steam controllers were compatible with this headset... unless they explicitly told you otherwise.. is that the case?
@bradley35495 жыл бұрын
They said the controllers were compatible with Steam VR. That means the controller and models are built into Steam VR (Same as all over windows mixed reality based VR headsets). Different statement.
@joshuaszeto5 жыл бұрын
@@bradley3549I heard it from a few other videos doing a first look at it. so I guess the question is... does the steam vr controllers use a tracking system that is separate from the headset?
@bradley35495 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaszeto If by "Steam VR" controllers you mean "HTC Vive" controllers, then yes. They use the lighthouse tracking system that requires external boxes that is separate from the headset. Allegedly you can get the Vive controllers working with WMR headsets so long as you have the lighthouses. I have not personally tried this myself. Steam VR itself is controller agnostic. It has support for HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, Oculus Rift Touch and of course the Valve Knuckles controllers for sure, maybe others. As new controllers come out they will certainly be added.
@joshuaszeto5 жыл бұрын
@@bradley3549 i was more referring to their upcoming ones that can track individual fingers on the controller.
@bradley35495 жыл бұрын
@@joshuaszeto I doubt anybody knows the answer to that question at the moment, but given the fact that the Knuckles/Index controllers use lighthouse technology just like the Vive controllers, I bet it will be possible to make that combination work as well. I'm hoping the Valve Index is released with good enough visual quality to make that pointless.

Tracking? As good as lighthouse?
@timmontanus43115 жыл бұрын
Nope not at all, wmr is known for not so great tracking. There are only 2 camera's for the inside- outtracking, in comparison quest has 4 camera's and rift S 5.

Feels as good to me when it’s within view and batteries are fresh. Really falls off when batteries are around half capacity. Totally falls apart when you’re outside the view of the cameras.

It's mid june and this HP reverb headset is still not available anywhere what the h*** is going on at HP????????
@kevinisawake5 жыл бұрын
How I wish the Reverb Resolution was in the Quest - that would have been the Ultimate Wireless VR Headset of all time. I will still buy the Quest - I don't have a 1080 GPU in sight.

How good is the reprojection software vs let's say the new oculus asw 2.0? I wonder... 🤔🤪

If they just could upgrade this to 4+ cameras for imporoved tracking volume like Rift Quest or S, this would definitely be my new headset :(
