I have the Xbox One X and think it's PERFECTLY fine for gaming! I'm not going to buy an all digital game system just because it has quick resume. Not to mention that since the Series S doesn’t have a disc drive storage will fill up rather quickly. (Stick with the One X)

You know, even with a disc, You still install the entire disc/game and run the game from the internal storage. Optical Disc read speeds are too slow to keep up with the demands. The disc essentially serves as a license now, very much like PC has forever.

I currently have a ps4 and the one x seems like the best option at the moment. Xbox cloud gaming means you can play all the new exclusives whilst with the backwards compatibility and disk drive not be locked into needing game pass or purchasing digital games

After owning both consoles for over a year, I can say that it all depends upon the type of games that you primarily play. As far as modern games, I prefer the performance of the series s over the raw graphical output of the one x. I mainly gravitate towards 360 and original XB games at the moment, so the one x was more convenient as its cheaper to buy the game disk instead of overpaying for the digital version (unless its on sale).

I own both Series S and One X but when playing Skyrim or Fallout 4 its a pain waiting on those load times on the One X. SS dust the One X with load speeds. Storage wise i bought a used 1tb SSD for $40 and im all good to go

I had a $60 1Tb SSD I bought and with the One X costing me $190, I got a nice system. The games load twice as fast off the external SSD. For $250, I get 4K gaming and a moderate decrease in loading times.

The One X can play physical discs so if you're a physical collector than the Series S isn't even in the cards. In addition, by equipping the One X with an internal SSD, the consoles overall performance, load times and UI functions improve dramatically. Still not as fast and snappy as a Series S and the One X CPU is still pretty underpowered, but many games on the One X will run at 1080p while maintaining a pretty rock solid framerate, going as high as 60 fps even in games like Halo Infinite. They'll also play in 4K but the framerate will take a hit so, in my opinion, its probably better to think of the One X as a 1080p machine. Only the Series X can pull off high framerate 4K gaming as far as Xbox goes.

One thing you didn't talk about much is the game availability. Series S can play games made for X/S whereas one x is kinda limited on some games but not a ton. One game I wanted to play was century age of ashes, which can only be played on x/s consoles. But I can't because one x can't run it.

Keep in mind though that in order to take a vantage of the upscaled graphics or the 120 FPS output, you either have to have a UHD/4K TV or a TV that is 120 Hz. Not everybody has one, but I do know that there are some UHD PC monitors that are compatible, that allow upscaled 1440P.

Not true, even on a 1080p display you will still get a benefit from internal higher resolutions. FPS though, yes, you will need a display that specifically supports 120hz to benefit.

I'd rather stick with the One X, just not enough memory on the Series S and I can't justify the price of buying the Series S and then buying more storage when I could spend my money on something more worth it, I'm not too bothered with waiting for the load time to be able to have more games on one console, also I prefer quality as you said if you try to go for quality on the Series S there's a definite FPS problem, I just wish that you could upgrade to SSD on the One X as surely you could load games faster, one thing I'm pissed at xbox for though is the One X was meant to be the go between before you upgraded but the truth is it's not because most game developers aren't willing to support it now the next gen is out making it almost obsolete, like CDPRED we basically sank money into Cyberpunk 2077 just for it to run like shit, some of us asked for our money back and some of us decided to wait in faith just for them to throw it back in our faces like they fixed the game almost but now they're saying there focus won't be on the One, the truth is that the One X is still relevant and can keep up with the Series S and developers could easily keep the One X up to date but they just won't as it's tied to the Xbox One I don't get it 🤷

I bought a One X on ebay for $100 + $15 shipping and I already have a Seagate 2tb external SSD. The One X has 3 3.0 USB ports. Using a SSD through a 3.0 USB port will give you much faster loading times for any game running off of the external hard drive. Just a tip.😉

Series S is way better, simply because of one thing: framerate. I upgraded from One X to Series S a year ago and I'm so happy about it. I literally only miss the disc drive, but everything else is so much better. Much faster almost non existent loading times, much better framerate which benefits the gameplay a lot. As I said, the only thing I miss about my old One X is the disc drive.

I got an Xbox One X for Christmas 2017 and have no regrets. As for load times, an external SSD help with that. Even an external HDD is faster than the internal. As for resuming, you can resume a game on the Xbox One X. I've done it a few times. I just push the power button and when I turn the system back on the game is ready for me to continue on playing when I launch it.

@@RetroFan When it comes to loading times the SS still loads several times faster than the one x even with a fast SSD and starting next year we will be getting next gen only games like Starfield and redfall and if not mistaken Scorn, The Medium, and Gotham Knights are all next-gen as well and maybe a few others that I'm forgetting. As far as 4k the One X was mostly a dynamic 4k with only a few native 4k titles and even then they are mostly 30fps while the SS has a lot more titles @ 60fps even if the resolution is only 1080p/1440p in most titles. Witcher 3 on the one x for example has a 60fps mode but can only do so in 1080p and even then it's not stable and is mostly around the 40-45FPS range. I have an SX and PS5 FYI not a SS even though I had one before upgrading to the SX which blows them both out of the water in comparison there is nothing wrong with digital it's a preference and very convenient for many.

Both have their cons and pros but the SS gives better performance and higher framerate in most games including the faster load time but if all you care about is older titles and 4k or close to 4k than stick with the one x.

I had Xbox One X and there was no way I was going to to the Series S. To me, it would've felt like a downgrade despite faster load times. Furthermore there are some titles on the Series S that are only being displayed at 1080p. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy is 1080p@30fps on the Series S which definitely doesn't seem like next gen to me. I bought it for the PS5 and it looks amazing in 4K. I do still think the Series S is nice, but definitely not a must have.

I just got a One X for €135/$147 at my local GameStop and I can’t complain. Even got the Gold Rush special edition. I’d also recommend to swap out the 1TB HDD with an SSD. 2TB would be great. That may be a bit tricky if you haven’t opened a One X before but there are quite some guides how to open one up and how to replace the hdd and install the firmware.

Yeah I got a Gold Rush as well, and 2TB SSD.. both used and £170 total. It was not too bad to fit the SSD, but it helps if you have worked on laptops / Apple Ipods before. Really happy with it now, and there is some great software for 360 / Xbox one which was updated for 4k... Burnout Revenge, Final Fantasy XIII e.t.c.

The Series S was never intended to be an upgrade to the One X. It's pretty genius how Microsoft handled the naming. They assumed people with a One X would want the biggest and best. So they released the Series X. They assumed owners of the One S would be ok with some compromises in performance so it's upgrade was called the Series S. Couldn't be easier to understand. If the name has an X in it it's does 4k and is the best console Xbox has to offer from that generation. If the name has an S in it isn't 4k but has upscaling and makes other performance compromises. But the naming schemes are so similar from last gen to this gen so owners of Xbox One consoles could know which offering was intended to be their upgrade.

Absolutely, and a cheap external 1TB SSD. Every bit as good as the series X, and it runs 90% of it's games at the same resolution. Maybe little insignificant graphical differences you'll never notice. The only advantage the Series X has are slightly better framerates on many games (60fps/maybe 120) on some. But the One X does 60fps 4K on many too. So don't get the idea it's a slouch at all. it's still stronger than many gaming rigs people put together out there today. I love mine, and use it with my Series X for games I want to play at 30fps, and not 60. Like Tomb Raider, AC Odyssey, Metro Exodus, among others. I don't feel the need for it on EVERY title. Sorry for the novel.

As an owner of a One X & Series S (and Series X actually) I think the XSS is better than the One X. The loading and frame rates are a great upgrade and when games actually utilise the features of the new GPU you see that the graphics can be very good on the XSS. The storage isn't even an issue as I used to use external drives with my One X, I have them plugged into the XSS and games load faster from there too. Juts keep your old Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Xbox OG games on an external HDD or even better external SSD (they load as quickly as when installed on the internal drive, see Digital Foundry) and they will load quickly and you've got the internal storage for new games. Even some games which are upgraded (Gen9 aware games) will play from external storage too, so I don't see any issue with the 500gb SSD in the XSS. Now, with regards to the difference between the XSS & XSX I have the X downstairs with the S as my bedroom console.... but I have to say that the S is a strong performer and will most definitely do for most people, particularly if your purchase is budget driven and you have a smaller TV.

I have owned both of these consoles. I first had a one x but then When the series s came out I was like 😮 and traded my one x in for it. I regretted that after the first week. I miss disk drives and 4K gaming but the series s is also reallly good for when I wanna quickly check something it’ll take like 20 seconds to load up the Xbox and go into the game. In the end both consoles are very unique but in my opinion I like the one x more.

Problem with the One X is the rubbish CPU , Had they proportionally improved the CPU as much as the GPU added in an SSD it could have lasted for years longer. I’d argue that the One X is better, simply because of the disc drive and having access to the second hand market. You swap an SSD into a One X and do the thermal paste over again since it was applied like SHIT from the factory, you have an amazing machine on your hands. Still use the oneX regularly You have to go to resolution in the settings, turn it to 1080p and it makes the menus so fast. (Games still run at their highest avaliable res tho) also use a SSD with 1000mb read speeds to help with loading. Not as fast as my SX but definitely holds up.

Xbox One X oftentimes runs games at a higher resolution and slightly graphical settings in a lot of cases compared to Series S, also One X has the 4K Blu-Ray for games and movies and double the storage of the Series S, in the other hand the Series S has a faster CPU so more games run at 60fps and a few even at 120fps, also Series S loads everything quicker thanks to the SSD so it depends on your priorities, if you want a consoles that's completely better than the Xbox One X and a full upgrade then your only option is the Xbox Series X.

Picked up a one X for $100. I think the previous owner noticed it ran hot and it shut off on me a couple times in the cabinet. Added new thermal pads and cpu thernal paste.. gave me an excuse to get a larger ssd for my PC and tossed in the old 1tb ssd. Runs cool, loads quick and plays games in 4k. Underrated system for sure. Re3 looks better on xbox with my 4k tv than it dows maxed out with ray tracing on my beefed up PC at 2k res 🤷‍♂️. Would have considered the series S if it came with at least a TB. 512gb is criminal. Plus the 4k blu ray drive.. dont use it much but it's still a benefit and for 1/3 the price.. no brainer.

I had a Series S. Took it back and got a Series X. MUCH better. Glad I did it. I would NOT have been happy if I still had the S. Game drive aside, resolution and frame rates are what this next gen is all about and the Series C has the HP. The S does not. 1080p at 30fps isn’t next gen. Sorry. It’s just not. 1080p at 60 is next gen for consoles but is still um acceptable. The Series X has proven it can do native 4K at 60fps with a properly optimized engine via the developer. 1440p 60fps is also plenty good for me. The Series S just doesn’t cut it.

To be honest it all really depends on what is your preference if you are one of those people who prefer native 4k graphics you are better off with Xbox One X but if you mostly just care about running most games at 60fps you're better off with the series S since the CPU runs at 3.6 GHz So you have more available 60 FPS performance mode option But no matter how hard you deny it the One X is actually better than the series S When it comes to native 4K graphics and the majority of console gamers will always prefer 4K graphics over 1080p or 1440p or lower 🤮

If you live in the uk you can get an Xbox one X in CeX for £145 to £160, I bought mine for £145 on Saturday

I have the one x it has been good. No problems from it. Just bought the series x. Because the series s doesnt give me quality which is why i bought the one x to begin with.

Finding a new Xbox One any version is impossible in January 2023 unless your willing to pay like $900 to a $1,000 I was upgrading from my Xbox 360 slim and for the life of me I couldn't find any versions of the Xbox One for retail price so I just got the Series S when it was on sale on Christmas man I can't wait to collect it this summer form my family in the US

this may be true but the X1X cant play some next gen titles without cloud gaming. so your X1X can't play (Scorn, the new Deadspace remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake (maybe)) since these are X|S only titles. this means more next gen games might not be able to play on the X1. I actually have the X1X and super sad right now cause am at a region where cloud gaming aint possible. so i have no choice but to switch up to the Series S. but cant they make the next gen backward compatible? i mean seriously can they

im in iran and i can't buy 4k monitor or tv so series s is best option ( wa can't even buy much disc )
