I’m having the handwound ‘50-‘51 Blackguard pickups put in my recently ordered Fender Custom Shop 1952 Telecaster. Now the waiting game begins! Can’t wait to hear them through my ‘64 Custom Deluxe Reverb.

I got this pair as a Christmas present to myself and I couldn’t be happier with the investment. I come from school or work and there it is: my dream sound. Perfect match with the 5 watt Fender 57 Custom Champ.

I’ve seen some sources say these are lacquer potted. The “Fender Guy” says early 50’s pickups were wax potted. Can you clarify?
@valentino31915 жыл бұрын
When I see how well they can clone real Telecasters form the early 50's, I'd never want a real one. Too much and this is more than convincing.

What's difference between 50'-51' Blackguard vs "Loaded" Nocaster pickups? They seem to have common resistance and same Alnico type on both Neck (A5) and Bridge (A3).

This is a difference I’ve noticed, with a channel like fender, compared to a channel by someone that connects with their fans. I haven’t seen one response, by fender, answering any questions people have asked in these pick up videos

The “tone with hair” he mentions may have more to do with the amp than the pickups, but either way the noodling is top notch!

Are these the same as the packaged Custom Shop '51 Nocaster pickups?
@Gretev15 жыл бұрын
jimmythefish no they are not. These pickups are what they used to call broadcaster pickups but now with a different name. Blackguard pickups are modeled after the early broadcaster pickup designY
@jimmythefish5 жыл бұрын
Gretev1 Thanks. Yeah I figured as much. I wish they’d be clearer in their marketing and specs - even the custom shop design sheets don’t mention hand-wound options etc. It gets very confusing. (Edit: the custom shop sheets do mention hand-wound, missed that).
@Gretev15 жыл бұрын
jimmythefish I think it is the point to be vague so as to fool as many consumers as possible into not noticing that they have been selling the same product under different names for the past 70 years. There‘s no room for innovation for companies like Gibson and Fender. They have cornered themselves as a dealer of vintage products. Even if they designed new music technology that was ingenious and desirable, all their customers would sneer at them for stepping out of their boundaries. So the Fender and Gibson marketers have been selling the same ancient stuff, branded under different names.
@jimmythefish5 жыл бұрын
Gretev1 I agree. It’s an odd industry, remaking 70 year old technology and regarding it as their finest components. What irks me most is the intentionally tiered models and insanely limited options. Why can’t I get a reasonably priced guitar with a nitro finish option as an add on? Colour options are maddening. It would be great if they offered an order to basic spec option without pushing you to the custom shop. I do ok, but I’ll have to wait a bit until I can afford what I really want from the custom shop, which is basically an NOS 1960 telecaster with a 9.5” board and modern wiring. That shouldn’t be a custom shop order, given that it’s basically what’s in the Original lineup anyways.
