they arent at all, they are very young, a steel company in switzerland came up with them. There are really hard to make, and only a handfull of people are able to craft them, thats why they are rare and expensive, and fucking beautiful, the sound talks to me like no other, amazing instrument. would love to be able to afforsd one

Well I don't think there is anything wrong with simplicity and repetition, it usually trumps something that is complex. Like you said though, the scales on a lot of these and so that you can't play a wrong note. Put it in the hands of even a non musician and they could pick out a pleasing pattern, so these guys are nothing special really. Except that they are in the "Hang Club" so they were on the waiting list for 2+years and paid a lot of $$$. It's the same with "Gong masters"(look on tube) a joke, if you own a 36" inch paiste gong you are now a gongmaster, if you own 2 36" gongs or 1 40" inch you are now a grandmaster of gongs. Sorry to be a bummer but the hang company(s) are keeping the supply low to keep the price high and keep the novelty going.

but that is the point , even if you aren't super talented the act of playing an easy instrument makes people that aren't such great musicians maybe otherwise get to enjoy the thrill of having sound waves surroundn them anyway whenever they want , by their own hands.. considering - i think both simple and complex can be entertaining, perhaps, if one enjoys a vast amount of music. . I choose most to listen to something like this if I have a large task at hand and need to stay focused on it - the repetitious sounds are good for more than just meditation and some may still consider that a form of meditation anyway but it is like ..sorta like rain to me that kinda effect as someone above mentioned. I think anyone purchasing this or similar and taking time to go sit outside in public/or alone in the woods- they want to sit in nature and sit near people and make them happy too, not just themselves, i'm sure it is more than just a novelty to them and anyone around them enjoying the sounds during an otherwise for some people hectic day get to enjoy it. If you wanted to and put effort in you can make one of those yourself it just wouldn't be as high quality .. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it were harder than it looks.
