This show does accurately demonstrate how 'some' tower companies operate. The tower crews I hire are mindful, team oriented and professional. They decide if the project is going to take an extra day and it's OK if it does. Tower workers are under paid, towers are not universally designed with safety in the forefront. Many towers are not human friendly, I hate asking my crew to work towers like this. The video photography is outstanding. For those wanting to join a tower crew, know the work is intense, dangerous even when your hyper-safety oriented, danger is ever present (environmental, rigging, accidents, Etc.). There are plenty of videos out there that show how tower life is. All the talk about death and danger was weird. Talk about how to do the job safely and what you're going to do when the day is over, otherwise your talking like you are addicted to danger.
@mattjack39833 жыл бұрын
Yeah i found all the death talk to be really strange. I worked as a rigger for several years, and death was not brought up anywhere near that much. Like u mentioned, we mainly talked about the job, and the safest most efficient way to get it completed. No one really fixated on death an danger like some kind of adrenaline junkie. Id never want to be on a job with this crew.

As a female tower climber this is a little embarrassing. Once you are above 100 ft it's pretty much all the same unless you're doing some crazy 1200 + tower. It's also not that physically demanding depending on the work you are doing on the tower and the extra weight of any tools you bring up. I encourage any woman interested in a career in climbing to try it out. Trust your gear and you really don't have much to worry about. You only really get better at climbing by actually climbing so give it some time and don't worry if you start off slow. I've been climbing for about 7 months now and my tallest tower so far was 440ft (190-300 is average), so nothing crazy yet. As far as being a woman in this industry I've had more problems with being coddled than I have anyone hating on me for being female. Most guys in the industry don't care as long as you pull your weight.

haha, that dude gets a call about an alarm and climbs up there and knocks the stiff arm down...lmao...I'm pretty sure the stiff arm is not affecting the signal, no reason to even touch that! Shit like this make our job look like a joke. Would have been a lot better if they would have kept it real with some good tower hands!

Nothing about the husband and wife team securing the Coax in hangers on the way down,, that can be the most time consuming part of a installation,, also a big Klein bag full of stainless Coax brackets for 7/8 or 1 inch heliax is a heavy carry,, we used to winch up the bag after the antenna was set, weatherproofed, and ready to go.

At 8 minutes and 30 seconds the narrator says... John built the Tower in 1999... using the term built is a very broad term.. I'm curious to know John actual participation in this Tower in Pennsylvania in 1999...

They have a cable grab, but still clip off? 40 is safetying off to the fucking diagonal on the boom, “somebody else’s” shiny new pipe to pipe to pipe conveniently falls on a tipped over Decom cabinet outside the shelter......this is comedy

I know like all reality TV that this is fairly contrived and orchestrated, but if 40 oz really is the foreman, he needs to assert his authority over Jesse. That insubordination is unacceptable.

Maybe that is the real reason he is called '40w': a) that isn't particularly bright for a bulb, unless it is a compact fluorescent tube, or LED; or b) that is how much is flowing out of his ol' bone dome ...

yeah, they pulled it by hand (totally lame), yeah they didn't show the waveguide snapped in, and the channys. BUT, all in all the show did help show people some of what we go through. Most people don't even notice towers; let alone the brotherhood that climbs them.

Just curious, do you know the cancer rate among tower workers? Serious question, with the shot going up these days, I wouldn't doubt it if the rate is high.
@Jayf787 жыл бұрын
99 out of 100 tower climbers WILL get cancer within the first week of working and out of those 99 people, 98 of them WILL die of severe brain cancer by the second week of work. The pay is good though :)

Is this show a joke? They make anyone who actually works in the industry look like a bunch of pansies. Dramatizing the climb up and down like its the most dangerous thing imaginable. And a god dame romance are you kidding me?? You had to add a love story to this crap? Ridiculous, the whole thing. Completely over the top. I was happy to see a show about the industry on t.v but after watching this I hope it doesn't continue.
