This film is really special to me. I was the flight instructor at Escape Country and worked daily with owner Jim Robinson and PR and marketing guy John Smith. I had not seen this film until now (12-13-16) and I am so taken back to it all. I remember that I competed in this meet and had big plans to win it, due to the fact of being a local. Oh well, I learned something about drag on the speed run! My name is Jeff Anderson and this competition was wonderful and spurred me on to greater things. John Smith, if you are still out there, I would love to connect with you.

My young family and I witnessed this event, we lived only 3 miles out of the Trabuco Canyon there. I was a neophyte flyer on a used SST…the 'Star of Texas' I called it, having one big star on one wing and red, white and blue color scheme. Those were magical days, having the ability to make those 'flying dreams' actually come true. This was something I could do and camp out with the kids and wife at the same time…I didn't feel like I was stealing every weekend for myself and of course the kids were mesmerized with the colors and spectacle of it all. I thought that the 'eyes of the world' must be fixed on this…'Hang Gliding Thing'…magical, how else could you describe it?

That was fun, Dad and I were here in 75 and 76. Got lots of flights in the Quicksilver.
