Hang Time S03E01 Team Captain Part 1

After Amy and Josh leave Deering, a new cheerleader, Kristy Ford, and a new player, Michael Manning, come to Deering. Michael's a great player, but Julie expects to be elected team captain and is extremely hurt when the rest of the team choose Michael over her. Meanwhile, Mary Beth reveals that she kissed Ryan Parker while at space camp.

@@jennyf7876 I thought it was weird that they had a crossover with Saved by the bell, even had Screech make a cameo but then have Dustin Diamond make a cameo as himself while the Saved by the bell movie is playing meaning it was not in the same universe and Hang time anymore.

That's how it's really done sometimes. A head coach will, on occasion, leave the decision up to a vote by his players and reveal the team captain after the vote is counted. Other times, the coach and his staff will come to a consensus on the matter, and still there are other times where the athletes will nominate a teammate and the coach may endorse the nominated player.

Josh and Amy were written out of the show for this coming year. Yet they had no storylines on their departures, which I assumed were they went to college. But even in season 2 they mentioned the other guys and Sam leaving and in season 4, they mentioned Teddy, Vince and Danny leaving. Why didn't they do that with Josh and Amy? Also Kristy was brought on as new head cheerleader without a storyline, she was jus there!

I think she was always smart, they just didn't showcase it very often. Mary Beth showed the most growth throughout the entire series. She was very spoiled and vapid the first couple of seasons (although there were hints like that episode with Earl where she wrote poetry), then she started to change. Her parents' divorce had a profound effect on her.

While it may be true that there were womens teams, not every high school had one for every sport. Some sports weren't popular enough with the local girls to warrant a team. Also, the courts ruled repeatedly that in cases where there were no opportunities for females to play on their own teams, they had to be given the opportunity to try for the males. And you are right, she was not good enough to make a decent female team, much less a boys team. Her shot was the ugliest thing I've ever seen.
