Really cool video. Thanks again for presenting in-person to our club; Chippewa Valley Amateur Radio Club, last night. Club members are still talking about how great your presentation was! Chip W9OQI

Always enjoy the videos and the information you give about the park. I learned the ways of FT8 this past weekend. Now to get the digirig and setup the FT891

Eau Claire's a fun city. Coming this fall, Chris' weavings will be back in stock at Tangled up in Hue.

I used to do what you do Michael (which is very easy). But I would always forget to reset the ADI file, so now I do what Dave does but with N3FJP. Then in N3FJP I upload to QRZ, eQSL and LOTW. Thanks for sharing!
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
Yep. Sometimes I'll be halfway through a session and remember that I didn't reset the log. Then I have to take it into ADIFmaster and delete the old contacts before submitting it.

I use two radios for FT8 when I am RV camping. And I don't use filters. I just have them transmitting on the same slice, even or odd. Works great! Robert KD4YDC

Do you use two antennas or a TX/RX switch to prevent one transceiver from feeeding into the other?
@BurtonChristmasLites Жыл бұрын
@@KB9VBRAntennas I'm using two different antennas. I just got through with a week of a "RV POTA" trip and actually made over 900 FT8 contacts. Most of them while using both radios going at the same time.

This was a neat way to do an FT8 activation video. I still log FT8 in HAMRS but need to try what you and Ryan are doing with the WSJT-X log file instead sometime.
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
It's a struggle to make FT8 interesting on video. I've added to my list to do follow up on logging and uploading FT8 contacts.

I think sending your location is part of the exchange. I like to know what grids I’ve worked.
@ae4xo Жыл бұрын
I've log the n3fjp software
@KH6WI Жыл бұрын
Someone calling you with signal report and no grid could still be blind calling. If they put your call in the "DX Call" field and press "Generate Std Messages" it will still populate a signal report even if they never heard you. It uses what in the "report" box. I understand your frustration with people continuously sending the RR73 because they want the 73 back. I give them 3 tries even though I've already logged them, if there's a pileup I have to move on and work the next person.
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
There's probably no way to completely avoid the blind callers, at least I feel that if the transmission starts with TX2, there's a better than average chance of completing the QSO in 1 or 2 tries.
@Clark-N1NVK Жыл бұрын
How do you cue up the next caller while the cycle is still running?
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
After WSJT finished sending the RR73 (TX4) I have 15 seconds to pick another station that's calling me by double clicking on their callsign. The computer will start transmission to that station on the next cycle.

Hi Mike which do you use, WSJT or WSJT X? Everyone refers to them both as just WSJT. Thanks in advance!!
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
I use WSJT-X. Both are fundamentally similar. WSJT is the original program and WSJT-X is the open source version and has been extended with features by other users.

Michael, how do you log a "two-fer" when using FT-8 during a POTA activation? Gerald - KG0VA
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
When you activate two parks at once, either digital or phone, you will need to submit two logs, one for each park. After the activation I take the ADIF file and edit it in ADIFmaster. I change the My_Sig_Info field from the one park to the second park. Then I can upload both logs for both parks. On a related note, if you use Hamrs for logging your activation, it has a Log Duplicate function. That allows you to quickly make a duplicate log with the 2nd park's My_sig_info field automatically changed.

Don't worry, sideband will be back, I really do enjoy talking to people on the air. I needed a little break from the pile ups.

I think you should put your antenna on a tripod and use a couple tuned radials. I use a Buddipole tripod which puts the antenna up about 10 feet. Really disappointing to see you on FT8. :(. de KW7WP
@KB9VBRAntennas Жыл бұрын
I've got testing tuned radials on my list to see if there is an advantage. Also, sideband hasn't gone away, there will be plenty of that coming up.
