I like that you guys built as a couple and include inclusive words for the project. As for the Cub, I have one and I don’t think I’ve ever had it at full throttle. I’ve crashed three of them though. Tip stalls are predictable and elevator deflection and velocity relation are key to not have AoA stalls. I put Fowler hinges on my Cub because I didn’t like how the strip ailerons didn’t give me slow flight character. I think you guys should build a full build now. Monokote covering is a skill to be conquered.

Thanks! Yeah it’s a great plane we love it. We would love to do a full build (kit) one day. We just don’t have time unfortunately 😪. We are both medical helicopter pilots for work and that career path literally takes up so much time lol. Heck, we can’t even find time to finish our XCub ARF video series we have going lol. Unfortunately full scale helicopters and life comes first before RC aircraft 😂

Congrats on a trouble-free maiden! Looks like that little tailwheel worked out fine. Hard to beat a good flying day at the lake.
@UngluedModeler3 жыл бұрын
Thanks yeah it went great for sure. And yeah the dry lake is sooo fun especially on a nice day like we had. Only thing I would like to change on the plane is go down to a 4000 mah battery for better CG or play with some more weights and get that 5000 better balanced.
@arizonarc66243 жыл бұрын
@@UngluedModeler I think I'd try moving the battery rather than going smaller, electrics don't have long flight times as it is. It seems to fly really well, maybe just fly it as is for a bit and get a feel for it and what you want it to do. A little nose heavy might tame the stalls a bit also. Maybe bring a charger to get more flights in? If you do a simple charge (not a balance charge) they charge a lot faster so two batteries can keep you going. Now if only this wind would give us a break... Glad you guys got up there when you did, looks like you hit the only good window we've had lately.
@UngluedModeler3 жыл бұрын
Yeah good idea I’ll try that. The Carbon Cub battery tray design doesn’t give you much room to shift the battery around. Because the battery mounts under the console allll the way up to the front you have to mount the battery to the tray like a sled and then slide it in there and it bolts down in a specific spot. But I might be able to figure a way to shift it a tad rearward. And THE WIND!!! Geez it’s crazy!! 50 knots today!
@arizonarc66243 жыл бұрын
@@UngluedModeler I'm sure you'll figure something out. And it doesn't need to be permanent if you're just experimenting with the position. No kidding about the wind, it's starting to get on my nerves! I should look into getting a big box kite. Then I could fly near the house, and give the Tundra a break, it's looking a bit hammered these days.

Thanks! Yeah we’re both in good health thankfully just work is insane with OT right now. We don’t really talk about it much but we’re both Medical helicopter pilots. Such a demand for workover right now. So unfortunately RC aircraft take a back seat to full scale helicopters lol

Every cub I've flown (save the clipped wing version) needs turns to come from the rudder and not the ailerons. Coordinate both. More rudder movement than aileron

Yeah you absolutely could. But if you know how to fly this plane doesn’t need SAFE. And SAFE is a bad habit to get used to anyway!! LOL 😂 JK. I find that the larger acft are easier to fly, I’d be interested in your take on that.
@UngluedModeler3 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree 100%. The bigger aircraft are more intimidating but they are definitely easier to fly. They are more stable as they have weight on their side and the wind doesn’t bump them around as much either. Everything happens a little slower and more realistically. When I fly my Micro Tundra and other small micro fliers they are extremely twitchy, the smallest wind gusts will knock them around and you need lightning fast reflexes as things happen SO FAST.

Where did you get the black screws?
@UngluedModeler3 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris thanks for the question! After endless searching I finally found them at a specialty fastener store in Las Vegas called McFaddenDales. They were actually stainless screws and I ended up scuffing, spray painting and matte clear coating them! I can’t remember the size off top of my head but when I get home from work later I’ll check for you! Those little screws are hard to find at “normal” hardware stores 😂

How does it fly in the wind?
@UngluedModeler2 жыл бұрын
It does great! It’s a cub and it’s huge haha. Cubs handle the wind great and the bigger the plane is the better they do in the wind. The thing to watch out for with Cubs are the ground loops. Gotta stay on top of the rudder.

Congratulations on a successful maiden flight. I have now watched all of your videos and am thinking of buying the model too. I would be interested in whether you see the possibility of installing a tow coupling and a more powerful engine. I would be happy if you could write something about this. Regards from Germany
@UngluedModeler3 жыл бұрын
Hi!! Thanks for watching in Germany! We’re honored haha. Yes I’m sure you could reinforce the top area up with some balsa layup and make a tow release by hooking up an extra servo up there. There’s is tons of room but I would reinforce that area up! I’m sure it can be done depending on how handy and creative you are. As far as a more powerful motor you could install the eflite Power 90 and run 8s battery power. The plane recommends the Power 60 with 6s (what I went with). You will run into a CG issue for sure though and again I would worry about a little extra reinforcement in the motor area. The plane was meant for 6s power or a gas engine equivalent. I know the DLE 20 is popular for this plane. Good luck!
