Your Barn is really well braced. A couple of hundred years a newer “Barn wood builders” will be taking your barn apart to repurpose the wood and commenting on how well it was built. Your legacy. ❤👍🙌👏👊🙏

Your corner brace reminds of my childhood, of course. Having spent much time in some very old barns doing farm work, then reading the Foxfire series when it came out in the 70s, I got a strong appreciation for the old ways. The way they let in the corner braces into the construction and somehow puzzled them in as they built the barn. And strong! Even the unmaintained barns took centuries to fall down.

It’s Friday! I never knew that hanging up a canoe could be so entertaining. 😂 The lunch cooking show looked fantastic. Nice there was a clear day to make it more enjoyable. Thanks for the post. Try to take some time off during Christmas Patrick. Blessings.

Hello there Patrick, it's the old Montana cowboy, Frank Scherping here. My wife,Rae An & I will be cc heading out of New Mexico on Monday morning at dawn for a 1474 mile journey up to Monroe, Washington to spend Christmas & New Years with family. From there, we are heading to the Blue Mountains of Oregon to see if we can find (hopefully) a 40 acre piece of land to buy for my wife's business. My wife wants to start what is called "The Dyrt" which is basically a place for people to camp on. an R.V. park catering to hunters, fisherman, & hikers in Northeastern Oregon. We are sure looking forward to this next month & hopefully find our dream property. BTW Patrick, we will still be looking forward to each of your new episodes while we are away. So my friend, We sincerely hope that you & Karen have a peaceful & Merry Christmas & Happy New Year,& we wish you all the best for this coming year. Sincerely, Rae An & Frank Scherping ( the old Montana cowboy)❤😊❤

Picked me up a Bosch 12” sliding compound miter saw about six months ago. I love it. It’s the last tool you will ever need along with a track saw. I hardly use my table or radial saw anymore. You sir are a genius with your Milwaukee circular saw though

Great video! Well put together. That's a nifty way to hang a canoe on the ceiling, I like that. Could you do a whole episode just showing those amazing mountains that you have for a million dollar view? If you have a strong enough internet connection up there, you should think about setting up a Live Stream 24/7 of the mountains & wildlife that come through your area.

Regarding the canoe pulleys. You can add one extra pulley on either side so you can pull both ropes at the same time and the canoe will raise perfectly level.

Ask Jason at Jason's Knot Channel what knot you should use. You'll knot be sorry you asked... Only he could hate that pun more than anyone else. but seriously, he really knows just about every knot there is. He's got this really cool one for lowering a load that you can untie it from above after you get it down to wherever it's going.

So Patrick, of course I have an idea about a raising harness for your canoe. But it's way difficult but possibly worth it. You have to splice ropes to make it work. A snakes tongue of ropes at each end of the canoe tied into clips that will clip to each side of the bow and stern. then both ropes over the pullies (or woven into one like you mentioned to make it raise and lower evenly). You'll have next to nothing in weight and the whole thing stores empty very simply. But your design will hang any kind of canoe or boat so it has that benefit.

Great job! A little constructive....? Construction? critique? You could use carbineers? for the boards under the canoe for quick disconnect. For those days when you are in a big hurry to get that canoe down....lol

If anyone give you grief about going back and forth pulling the ropes you just tell them, if it was good enough for the life rafts on the Titanic.... Ok, maybe that's not a good example.
@stateofgrace906818 сағат бұрын
I was wondering about whether instead of pulling to the 2 pulleys at the end of the canoe, you could run the ropes to a double pulley at the centre - then you wouldn't have to go back & forth. just a thought

There's something to that triangle thing in construction. How many construction sites have you ever been on that don't end up getting pizza?

@joqlady88813 сағат бұрын
A couple of bike hoists overhead pulley systems would have hung that canoe up also. I am considering building me a lumber shed...I save all kind of wood also...scraps to some people,,like I have said before I see things in wood. Hey ,,,how was the hunting trip? Got any picks..? lov from South Alabama.

Hey Patrick, just curious, is the blade on your circular saw a Milwaukee or a Diablo? Also, how do you like that tool belt? Love your projects as much as your construction. Stay warm and Happy Holidays!

Don't know that I wouldn't take a triangle file to a hammer like your old one. I'm sure there are easier ways to checker a hammer head now a days but I like the challenge of doing accurate work with old tools. One of those snow day jobs I'd do in front of the fire place. Not hat I wouldn't also buy a new hammer. You really can't have too many hammers... can you?

@TommyG186014 сағат бұрын
It’s funny you should mention that… When I saw Patrick hammering those staples in, while watching on my phone, I thought, I need to rewatch this on the big screen to see if those are barbed, or double barbed fencing staples. They will not pull out. Smooth staples might. Then he basically addressed that exact point. I haven’t rewatched it yet, but I’ll take his word for it.

I’m always surprised by the difference between the number of people who come here (or any KZbin video site) and watch a video, and who of those will then click the Like button. Share a little love people. Does it cost you anything extra for the free entertainment when you hit Like? I don’t think so. Anyway, in my opinion any barn, Monitor or otherwise, can benefit from a few more braces to share the load as the years go by. Now that I think about it, it’s kind of the same thing with people too. Hint. Hint.
